Best Anti-virus? (free please!)

I had Active virus shield, which was excellent.. but it stopped updating.. seems AOL doesn't support it anymore. (no, I don't use AOL anymore... ).

So I downloaded the McAfee one, it has the same exact interface as Active Virus shield.. but that shit causes my entire system to stall when I log into Windows. That shit literally takes minutes to boot. Mind you I have a e4300 and 2GB of DDR2 memory. Once I uninstalled it, my shit ran fast again and booted up instantly.

I just tried Avast, but I get fucking pop-ups while in-game.. and it causes me to lllllaaaaggggg like crazy. Uninstalled instantly.

I don't want to go back to AVG, because that shit NEVER caught a virus for me. It's free, but it sucks.

I heard Kaspersky was good, but that there are some issues with it and the new Steam Community. So that's out of the question.

I don't care much about a firewall... Windows Firewall works fine.. and plus I have a router integrated into my DSL modem.

I was looking through download.com and saw a few.. but I don't know which ones are good. Reviews are from people who probably don't game. I don't want to get pop-ups in-game that cause me to lag on top of it.

DO NOT MENTION NORTON (I know some of you still will, like dickheads), the shittiest shit ever.

do yourself a huge favor and pay 20 bucks a year for CA anti-virus, or another smaller-footprint anti-virus program.

I've never gone back to AVG.

Nod32 - Antivirus Software - Eliminate Spyware and Adware with NOD32 Antivirus from ESET

Its going to set you back about $40 (There is a trial) but its well worth the money for the best Anti-Virus scanner. Its is so good, even Microsoft uses it because of how effective it is & it's low resource usage... Perfect for gamers.

Avira Antivir. The only AV you will ever need. I saw a test, and this found the most viruses. It's really resource friendly too. Not to mention that a lot I.T. guys love this little piece of software.

AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic - More than Security

You can pay for the extra spyware protection, but it's best to just use another browser.

I used to use Firefox, but it hated Straferight, and I would get timeouts all the time.

Opera browser is really great and loads SR in about 2 sec.

EDIT: Saw Teck's post, and NOD32 is great, but it's more buisness based.

I don't have a choice, I have to use Norton, but it seems my school optimized it or something for their needs. It takes nearly no resources but its not pretty at all. Gets the job done as far as I am concerned, but then again I don't got to many risky sites or perform in risky activities.

my AVG was telling me that Crysis.exe is a virus when its not so i had to uninstall it :'(
it was the best anti virus
I tried avast but idk how to use it
i have norton anti virus 2008 right now idk if I like it

I don't know which one catches all the viruses...
IDK which one is the best...
