The Build the Cheapest Gaming PC Thread
I know people who want to build a new system, but they are overwhelmed by 2 common factors
Letter 1)
The myriad solutions. There's so many chipsets, so many mobo makers, etc. Who knows exactly what to buy, and who knows what works together?
Letter 2)
Price. this is perhaps even more imporant. Keep the system build total cost under $1500. This includes tax and shipping.
Discuss the builds, or post ideas for parts combos. If you convince me a particular build (or component) is better for one of the builds, I'll update this post and add your name as a helper.
If you suggest an entire build, pick out an operating system, too. Might as well go with Vista Home Premium
What do you get out of this? There's a few answers..
Number
A) Nothing. You get nothing. Deal with it you selfish assbastard
Number
B) Accolades. Show off your ego. Better yet, show off what you know more about today's bleeding edge hardware. Go on, stick it to me.
Number
C) Satisfaction. Helping out your fellow sR member is its own reward. No, I really don't expect you to believe that

But go with an AM2+ socket on the mobo, it's the in-between til AM3 next year (AM2+ compatible with AM2 cpu). The only one I'm seeing quickly is Biostar, but I think you can find others if you try.

Now you can double up the hard drive for another $70, or buy some other cool shat with your other $439.
Motherboard is semi-future-proof with support for 45nm CPUs and DDR3 RAM.
I've also included a real CPU fan, so you have to multiply my system by a geek factor of x2. |
