Computer World: Your New Laptop In 2015

Have a look at some of these mockups of possible laptop technologies we'll see in 2015 from over on Computer World.

First, let's take a look at some concept notebooks. Just as futuristic show cars give us insight into what we might be driving in the future, concept notebooks offer a sneak peek at how we'll be computing.

These concept notebooks typically are created by independent designers and firms retained by laptop vendors. This is highly secretive business -- the designers we spoke were willing to talk about some of their concepts but couldn't tell us who they were working for.

Rarely does a concept notebook make it to the real world as a whole unit, but certain aspects often make it into production. Early 1990s concept devices contained integrated pointing devices, speakers and webcams, all of which are now standard equipment. It's likely that at least some of the new ideas, components and features showcased below will be coming to a notebook near you.
It's a cool story if you want to read about it...or you can just get e-wood from looking at the pics. Whatever floats your boat tiger...meow!

neat, but a lack of forward thinking.

We'll be carrying a hard-drive size personal computer with full graphics capability, and a roll-up LCD (paper), with a projectable keyboard (not the sucky ones they have now).

Kind of like an iPhone, but less kool-aidy.

or we might just have minority report computers that hover next to us and are see-through. those things were crazy they were using with their fingers.

This is also a bad idea...

what's funny is that most of the designers can't think past a laptop-style interface.

seems like the overall trend was using some variation of double LED/LCD displays.

I usually hate typing for prolonged periods of time on a flat touchscreen.

I thought the 3-d image surface was unique in that sense. My brother and I were seriously just talking about something like this the other day. I wonder how it forms the shapes (pins)?

I am with ya on that. I don't forsee the laptopesque form being the wave of the future. I want a Cell Phone sized laptop with "functional" projection keyboard that is a cell phone, PC that I can play modern games on it etc.

You guys expect this in 7 years time by 2015? I think for what they talked about is feasible now, but not sure what possibilities there will be by 2015.

Re: Computer World: Your New Laptop In 2015

Hello from 2014. A year before these predictions were to take place. We have 1/4" thick tablets with displays greater than 1080p. We don't need physical keyboards, and the processing powers of these tablets make your puny 2008 CPUs look like a Game boy. That is all.
