My video card is hot

Semi frequently TF2 will crash out on me when a lot of things happen all at once and only after quite a few minutes of play.

Running GPU-Z in the background it tells me that my GPU temps (immediately after an extended play session, i.e. at load) reach the mid 70s Celsius, but my fan speed remains at 37%.

I'm thinking high temps due to my unchanging fan speed are to blame for this stability problem. Is there a way I can tell my graphics card to adjust fan speed based on GPU temp or activity? I'm certain it will make my rig louder, but Vega's and Taxi's snide comments do more than enough to drown it out.

Help is appreciated.

do you get a tf2 error or is it only related to the gpu?

You can use rivatuner to adjust fan speeds. That's what I use for my ati 3850 as I have the same problem. Works flawless.

Mid 70's on the GPU is okay, they are much better at handling temps than CPUs. I think a max that they can go up to is in the 90s. Don't quote me though.

Vista specifically tells me something along these lines:

"hl2 is experiencing a problem. Windows is investigating a fix"

Then I go to desktop.

I never write down the language but the next time I experience it I will and post it up here.

you might want to run the computer once with the side panel off to make sure the fan is working properly...I had a vid card which would work fine under idle (desktop in windows, or even browsing the internet), but would crash after a few minutes of playing a game...after inspecting the card, the fan was clearly not working as it should and I had to get an after-market cooloer for the gpu...

While they can run at temps like that it isn't exactly recommended. Performance is better at lower temps and at 70+ degrees I would think his fan would be running faster then that.

I use rivatuner to adjust the fan speeds on my card. It's a good program and not too hard to use.

that would be good

otherwise follow these guys advice- take off the side panel, and use rivatuner for fan speed.

Recently I had problems with GPU overheating while playing Assassin's Creed. The temperatures it crashed at were in the mid 70s. I've yet to have any problems with any other games though.
