If they keep the price decent, I could see myself getting one of the Intel versions.

Some sites are speculating around the $1k area for the intel version which is more than I spent on my last desktop and monitor combined.

Remember the Motorola Xoom that launched for $800? No? No one else does, either.

    Re: Microsoft Surface Tablet

very few people are using their iPad or Android tablet as their only/primary computer. A few consumers, sure, it makes sense for email, web surfing, etc. They play with apps, check the weather, surf a forum or two and play music. Just like they can on their phone.

    That's a phone.

The Intel surface is definitely a business play - take your entire OS with you on a tablet to your next meeting - don't remote back to your desktop, don't have a reduced-functionality tablet just for taking notes, don't make concessions about what you can do when you're on a plane, in the car, or at a coffee shop.

It's not going to be priced at the iPad level, because it shouldn't. It's not a big phone. It's aimed at being your next PC, not your next add-on device that you throw in your bag WITH your laptop for when you want to just relax.

    Re: Microsoft Surface Tablet

Like it or not, iPad is the standard they're all going to be compared to. In specs, OS, software, sparkles, etc. Microsoft HAS to educate the consumers before they'll accept a tablet as anything other than an iPad alternative. Joe Blow walking into Fry's has no idea what "OS" means, let alone the difference between a full-on OS and one that's essentially for phones.

This is why Apple is so successful. Electronics buyers are stupid. Apple treats them like children. They're told what they want in a device. They're told what not to question. And in return, they get sparkles instead of gold star stickers. And they happily fork over lots of cash each year for the validation that Apple is happy with them.

Intel is making this a business tool? Great. But putting in on display between the A700 and the iPad 3 won't work. They need to advertise the shit out of it in Forbes, WSJ, Bloomberg, and every other business medium they can find. This was the tactic that made Blackberry number 1 and going away from it made them what they are today. Nothing.

tl;dr: If Intel is making something different than the iPad, don't sell it like it is an iPad.

Based on that the pro will clock in around 800 bones?

Will that model be considered a viable laptop replacement?
