    Western Digital Buys SanDisk

    Via Tom's Hardware

Western Digital Announces Acquisition Of SanDisk For $19 Billion

Western Digital means to buy SanDisk. Independently, I always liked both of these companies. Perhaps something special could be brewing here? Or is it just a bigger competitor buying up a smaller one? Either way, within the next few years, I feel we will see some big breakthroughs in storage and volatile memory technology

Pretty big news... SanDisk SD cards are the best... I just hope they don't decline because of this.

Gimme that 1tb micro-sdxc card, NAO!

interesting - the only drives with SSD like stuff in them that WD made were hybrid drives right? Certainly like more competition in that area (as well as SD cards)

My M4800 has a hybrid 1TB drive. Only 5400rpm. really not impressed with it. it's just a storage drive, though. I'll also note that it's a seagate and makes clicks of death.

My old unplugged Seagate 7200rpm is being used as a platform for my SSD to rest on. I didn't have an adapter or velcro or anything and figured I never move the PC so I just plopped it down there out of sight. When I was first shopping for an SSD I saw that SanDisk has some good drives, this seems like a solid move on WD's part. Hopefully some good kit will come from this acquisition.

I suspect you'll see new interesting things with high-ratio hybrids...
