    Windows 7 Beta Available For Download

    Windows 7 is available for download from Windows today for devs and tomorrow for us regular pee-ons. Since it was leaked this week on Torrent sites, this only makes sense. From Steve Ballmer @ CES 2009:

    “I’m thrilled to announce the availability of the Windows 7 beta, which is on track to deliver simplicity and reliability,” Ballmer said. “Windows 7 and Windows Live are part of an incredible pipeline of consumer technology that is making it easier than ever for people to communicate, share and get more done.”

    The beta version of Windows 7, Microsoft’s next-generation PC operating system, can be downloaded today by MSDN, TechBeta and TechNet customers. Consumers who want to test-drive the beta will be able to download it beginning Jan. 9 at Welcome to Windows 7.

    wow, already? seems like they're ready to release it full on next year? wonder if there will be a simple update from Vista to 7 or something. kinda interesting, but don't have a spare computer that can run vista to try that on :P

    it will be released this year, probably Q3. Retailers will offer free "upgrade to win7" packs on Vista machines in June, so it would have to come out within about 3 months of that.

    And Win7 should run on computers that can run XP, including netbooks.

    really? on XP machines so it's not so..power hungry? i'm rather interested thats for sure, especially with the rather vague info showing that 7 is supposed to be immensely better than Vista performance wise.

    What if you already have Vista... any free upgrades? heh..? glad i get my stuff from work (legally)... but many, they're pushing it out like Win2000 over WinME.

    I see this as evolutionary rather than revolutionary.
    Vista = Windows 95
    Win 7 = Windows 98 fixing all the Windows 95 screwups
