    Government Run Internet Security

From the same government who managed Fannie Mae so well, now comes a proposal to give the White House direct control over the security of every computer network- public or private.

It also would require licensing and certification of cybersecurity professionals.
Of course this can't be a ploy to generate more tax dollars though licensing, certifications, government mandated software, etc... it's just for the common good. After all, it's not fair that just a few companies are leading the computer security field.

    Senate Legislation Would Federalize Cybersecurity

jesus christ in a bucket, I can't keep up with these idiots.

It's about control. They want to be able to shut down any network at any time if they perceive a threat - how does that sound? You're chugging along on Google Docs or some other cloud feature and WHAM! Orange Alert by the feds takes you down for an hour.

    good job, Asstards.

and why do they always find some goddamn RINO to go along with this bullshit?

And where's Vega with his paranoid fantasies on this one? He's worried about camera on the border with this shit going on?

Hell, Bush couldn't even spy on terrorist emails, but this shit will sail through like a goddamn catamaran on Lake Erie in the fall.

Anyone who actually uses the term "cybersecurity" should not be allowed near any computer network and should be kicked in the balls/vag for good measure.

First off, network security engineers and analysts already receive private certification through various different groups (like CISSP for example). No one in the private sector will give a shit about a government cert which quite frankly will be able to be "purchased" if you know the right people (and don't kid yourself and think it won't happen).

Second of all, the Feds, the State and even the local government have ZERO jurisdiction when it comes to private networks. This is why the Internet in general is largly unregulated at present - the gubberment doesn't own the physical lines, routers, switches, servers (like the one that hosts sR for example) and data that is "the Internet". Sure, they own parts of it, small parts, and they control the parts they do. As for a completely private network, say for instance at the local office building down the street which is completely internal and doesn't touch anything outside of that building, the government has ZERO authority to regulate ANYTHING on that network. In short, FUCK OFF Congress! There are exceptions to this of course, for example, PCI complaince for banks, BUT, this compliance is still handled by the private entity - they must only show that they meet compliance. Big brother doesn't get access to the network.

And good luck getting the Risk and Governance folks at ANY company to grant the gubberment (any gubberment) access to their network. I'm 99% certain this won't pass but if for some reason it does you can bet your ass there will be THOUSANDS of lawsuits filed immediately. The gubberment might be able to take on the little guys who can't afford a lengthy proceeding but you can bet your ass EVERY SINGLE Fortune 500 company will contest this and these companies can spend whatever it takes to ensure they retain control of their property.

    FUCK YOU CONGRESS! DIAF!

I agree with all of that... I also still believe that more often that network security engineers already do a much better job than anyone `certified` by the government.

It's about the great firewall of China, and Obama once more plainly demonstrating his hate of freedom and liberty

But, I don't see this happening, because the internet is more than one country, and there aren't boundaries like there are on maps. There is also the fact that they've never been able to legislate really anything about the internet.. the .xxx thing has consistantly failed, free speech never really been attacked successfully. I don't think they can infringe on what the internet is.

Now what they should be doing is focusing on some iron doors that come down like flood bulkheads for when China does their DDOS on our entire American network when they decide to strike.

By the way, all of this shit can be undone by the next president, right?

A 60-day federal review of the nation's defenses against computer-based attacks is underway, and the administration has signaled its intention to incorporate private industry into those defenses in an unprecedented way.
it is widely known and believed that information warfare would cripple us, because we depend on it to run our machines more than anyone.. and Coffee could speak to that end more than any of us here.

I totally agree that the DoD should have a whole department for this, and I would be surprised if they didn't already.

But the private sector? Get the fuck out of the private sector.. Why are we trying to mix public and private in every fucking area now?

did you really just ask if Bo has his cwp?

he shot his name into the application form from 1000 yards... while on a Segway... One handed with his USP in .45ACP... While doing pushups AND eating his sandwich...
