    Google's Wave

Google's new software collaboration tool, named "Wave", broke at their "Google I/O" conference.

It's a tool combining email, chat and group efforts in a single program, something that's mostly been done before, but Google has its own take.

It's definitely still a Beta product (as, unfortunately, most Google products tend to be for roughly 3 years), and is a little rough, not to mention ugly as hell if the above representation actually ends up looking like that. The U/I is horrendous, but I would guess it was more about functionality right now.

I think the real gold isn't this app, but is the extensibility of it by 3rd parties.

I'm watching the entire video now, so you don't have to.

5 unexpected errors in less than an hour in a prepared demo?

not great. begging for applause? not great either.

Wave is a collaboration tool. It's a cool, very useful collaboration tool, but it's just a collaboration tool. You can share games, and share documents, and share maps, and do it all in real time.

You can extend the hell out of it, and do collaboration with/inside other software. It's very cool that way.

I know it took a lot of work, but it's just not geeking me out.

I feel much the same about iGoogle. It's neat, but the overall UI is just so boring. I use different gmail accounts in a few windows so maybe this could be useful in some way.

Google keep coming up with all these little things that are... clever. But they need to pile it all together, take the leap and create their own OS.
