Yeah, so MS (for FREEEEEEE) develops .Net and then lets anyone develop on the platform, they even provide updates to the platform FOR FREE and they even offer updates to make THIRD PARTY (ie - software they didn't develop) work with the platform. Then, people come along and complain about it.

Here's an idea - you don't like MS then don't use any .Net applications and don't install the platform or the updates or the updates that fix 3rd party apps (which isn't even Microsoft's job but they do it anyway FOR FREE).

I know, I know. They offered to fix it after the shit hit the fan. No big deal and it can be removed now.

I use both Windows and OSX, but I really don't like it when they try to slip stuff just like that (yes, Apple is guilty of that too) and only offer a way to remove it after public outcry.

Anyway, I did make it sound that I'm making a big deal out of it, I apologize and I didn't mean to look like I'm trying to pick a fight against The Man. My black humor and tendency for sarcasm get the best of me, the dark side is just too strong.

Well that's where our opinions differ. I don't see Microsoft attempting to "slip" anything in under the radar. Anyway, where's VV and his dead horse gif?

To be honest, I doubt MS realized that their implementation wasn't removable at the user level, as Firefox does it.

The main issue with the measure is that although Firefox fanboys are up in arms against it (I use Firefox, Explorer and Opera as needed), certain things that sometimes get installed are needed by developers or testers which have no other choice but to install it whether they like or not.

Thus, my previous comment about certain M$ agreements.

See, if you had paid anything for FireFox or for .Net I would agree with your 100% but the reality is that .Net is free for folks who run Windows and so is FireFox and since you didn't pay for them you have no guarantee as to their functionality.

If you want to get right down to it, the folks over at Mozilla did a halfassed job with allowing FF to install .Net based applications - if they had done it right to begin with MS wouldn't be coming behind them to clean things up.

Just to clarify, is this the .NET Framework Assistant 1.0 add-on?

Pretty sure it says that, or something of the sort, in the EULA
