    What Could be Wrong?

I have been having trouble with my PC completely shutting off randomly lately. No warning, just off. I have been doing a number of different tasks when it does so, and none of them should be putting a strain on my hard drives or processor. What Could be wrong? I suspect a Power supply that is becoming faulty, we did have a pretty bad storm a while back that caused 6 quick blackouts in a row, that might have messed with it enough to cause it to be damaged. What do you guys think?

if it's not looping you can most likely count out the video and sound devices. a dead stop sounds like power supply or motherboard.. and one could be causing the other damage as well. i'd go pick up a new power supply and run with it for a few days. if it seems ok, RMA the old one, sell the replacement new one on eBay, profit.

take the heatsink and fan apart. re-apply thermal past and put it back together. Make sure all of the fans are running and nothing is clogged up with dust

Or before you do such a potentially time-consuming task, download Speedfan and run that to see what the temps are at idle and at load.

Yeah i went for the new Power Supply. i did double check all of the parts on my motherboard, and nothing looked out of the ordinary. No melted or deformed parts. But yeah i will run with this new supply for a while, and see how well it works. i will probably clean out the case and CPU fan just to be safe.

I've seen problems where the screen goes black, the PC appears to have powered down, and it's a bad hard drive.

just so you know 99.9% its is your power supply, i just had a clan member with the exact same problem and it was his power supply that went out on him.
