7 boots pretty fast for me as it stands. About 15 seconds from post to sign on screen.

did you really just ask if Bo has his cwp?

he shot his name into the application form from 1000 yards... while on a Segway... One handed with his USP in .45ACP... While doing pushups AND eating his sandwich...

Are SSDs cost effective yet? Boot times aren't really a concern nowadays anyway... Those of us who want quick boot up times use sleep.

I didn't realize that boot time was much of a concern any longer. About half of my PC boot time is my motherboard's POST and that's on 6 year old hard drives in raid 0. On laptops I've always used Standby to speed up access and tablets can eliminate a majority of battery drain just by turning off the monitor so they are practically instant-on.

Yeah, and typically boot time was determined by how many applications were set to launch on startup anyways. My Win 7 when first built was blazing fast. not so much now, but it's not a big deal anyways. i typically turn my computer on and leave to go do something. like pee.

    Re: Windows 8 bootup

Boot time in Win 7 Enterprise 64 was around 50 seconds post to logon screen with my old Raptor HD. With the SSD it's quite a bit faster.

Cost is really relative. You have to decide if it's worth it for you. Having had an SSD as my OS/boot drive for about six months now, I wouldn't go back to an HD. You have to really research them before plunking down any cash though as plenty of them are absolutely terrible. The other trick is to get double the capacity you'll need and don't go past 50% or so usage as many models start to experience problems when you do.

I have a Corsair FS3 120GB right now. Corsair claims 550 MBps, I've never measured it, but it's really freakin' fast. With Windows 7, Office 2010 Pro (full install) and most of the Steam games I play regularly, I'm using right around 60GB. I can start BC2 in like 10 seconds or less, load a map and be in the game even faster.

    sigh

this isn't about leaving your computer on or not. this is about Windows 8 being utilized for tablets and other mobile devices, maybe even phones. You don't generally 'sleep' a tablet, so bootup time is important.
