The problem my company has with WinForms is that we use a TON of controls to implement paper forms on the screen. Sometimes we are emulating what might be 10 pages of checkboxes, fill-ins, dates, and so on, on a single scrollable window. In our original implementation, which was VB6 + WinForms, it becomes unacceptably slow with longer forms. In C# + WinForms, I have been able to improve the performance at least one order of magnitude (i.e. 20 second rendering time down to 2 seconds).

I experimented with Silverlight running in IE7 or 8 on a VM and the performance was not great. It was somewhere between the two examples mentioned above. I would love to see lighter implementation of UI elements. I wonder if this new stuff for W8 brings that along with it

ooh and the developer tablet they're giving away to the Build conference attendees is sweet. the thing at the bottom is actually a dock with HDMI, ethernet, usb, & audio out.
