    Re: Windows 8 Discussion Thread

I installed Windows 8 on a laptop that was collecting dust. I was really annoyed with metro and the desktop until I hooked the laptop to my TV the second screen made a world of difference. Metro on one screen and the desktop on the other. So I am going to connect that laptop to a spare 19in widescreen and try it with dual displays for a bit.

Windows 8 Will Sync Account Data and App State via Live ID - Tested

Windows 8 can sync a variety of information, which Microsoft has broken into the following settings groups.

    Personalize
    Themes
    Ease of access
    Language preferences
    Apps
    Web browser
    Other stuff
    Some passwords
I kinda like this, Win 8 synching data with Live. I Don't know how keen I am on it synching some passwords

yeah, it'd be nice to be able to switch from my upstairs computer to my downstairs computer and have my stuff automatically sync between the two. I can do that locally with my NAS and some programs, but all in all, I'd rather the O/S take care of it behind the scenes.

That being said, people with internet data caps should worry about this. The cloud and internet providers seem to be on a collision course

    Re: Windows 8 Discussion Thread

Seems Windows 8's lead architect Steven Sinofsky has been blogging about Windows 8 a lot and various sites are summarizing what he says.

Windows 8's Squeaky Clean Task Manager Explained - Tested

Microsoft Explains and Refines the Windows 8 Start Screen - Tested

Seems like some of us wouldn't have been so annoyed initially with Windows 8 had we known some of this before installing the dev build..

I have a feeling Windows 8 will be Vista over again. Then they will say they screwed up and then Windows 8.5 will work great.

Every Windows operating system has been like that. Good, Bad, Good, Bad.

Hey all those people who make a living writing computer books are going to be put out of business with Sinofsky's blog, I mean every post is a chapter for a book on its own.

Ars reports on the Ribbonification of the Windows Explorer interface here.

As far as I am concerned as long as cut/copy/paste/delete/rename and views are always easily accessible They can do whatever they want.
