    Windows 10 Discussion Thread

I figure by now, most of us are on Win 10. This is a great video on how to disable a lot of the sneaky spy schtuff Microsoft has on by default. Some might not be relevant, but I picked up a couple things I'd missed when I upgraded last year.

There is also a powershell script I use when (not handy atm) that will remove all the pre-installed crap.

Have spybot anti-beacon installed on all my machines (7, 8, &10). It works quite well. Keep it up to date and make sure to run it after each update. I've noticed settings being changed on each update.

I'm also blocking all updates on the compute stick by using glasswire. (It really is a nice firewall, and low resource. I'm likely to buy the full version.) The compute stick tended to update at the absolute worst time. Plus, since the compute stick only has a 32GB HD, any update took up a good portion of the drive. Insecure, yes. But whatever, there's nothing critical on that machine.

Ever try to use Google services with Microsoft products and have the Google way forced on you? Over the weekend a friend sent me a youtube video link which happened to get opened via the Edge browser. I figure edge can play the video so i hit the play button and i got a quarter screen banner saying upgrade to google Chrome with a very tiny X to close it i missed the X and got the Chrome download page instead in the same tab my video was playing in. I say no thank you to either company's spyware. And when I did the same thing using Continuum on my phone the Google banner was almost full screen on a 720P TV and about a third of the screen on a 1080p screen, i guess it would have been bearable on a 4K screen.
