"Yeah, it's something that we're looking at," said Microsoft's Mike Tedesco, who is the Senior Product Manager for WindowsBU. "Obviously the announcement (of the iPad) is really fresh and there's nothing to announce or nothing that I can talk to you about today.
| what a great idea this is for real. imagine if microsoft basically kicked the iPad version of iWork in the iNuts and dominated the professional side of the iPad userbase with iOffice. i would love to see MS come out with something designed for the iPad but something tells me they are going to work towards their own tablet device/platforms first. |

| | | Re: The iPhone, iPad & iPod Touch Applications Thread the 'ribboning' of all the Microsoft products was the first step towards touch in the office suite. (this puts larger icons on the menu strip instead of just file-edit-help-etc text menus) Ribboning the rest of the products, especially the Live products, has been almost completed, I think they're on "wave 4" right now.
Office 2010 puts all this capability online along with cloud storage and interactivity.
That solves the majority of the 'tablet' issue, unless they create an app specifically for Office, which I guess I just don't see happening, due to the dual-boot ability of the macs, and the questionable market for Office on the tablet (questionable for now, wait and see on market share).

I've asked this question before but never gotten an answer, Craig, if you think that the iPad will be so helpful with work/presentations/etc, why haven't you used a tablet PC these past few years?

| | | Re: The iPhone, iPad & iPod Touch Applications Thread for the very same reason most have not moved to tablet computing in the sales sector. they're bulky, run a desktop OS and are not optimized for touch in any way, have laptop-type battery life, and essentially offer no advantage over a slim laptop and are about twice the cost.
i see a tablet being instant on, super slim, great battery life, running a platform made for touch, and able to run simple tasks quickly such as viewing PDF files, excel, ect. |
