Hopefully, it'll work out better than Google buying Motorola Mobility.

    Microsoft to acquire Nokia
It's official. Shareholders just approved the sale. This gives Nokia a much-needed $7.5 billion and gives Microsoft direct control over their own phones versus control by fiat. Nokia plans on returning to profitability in the networking markets.

Now, all 3 major phone OS companies have their own in-house manufacturing arm. Apple is still flying solo as the only OS with a single company making their products.

Nokia has always made good hardware, its been the software that has been a crap shoot whether they made it themselves or licensed it. For example Symbian was something only the geekiest would use, but some of Nokia's Windows Phone apps are quite nice, I really like the local and map apps they have done for Windows Phone. For example the local app actually gives you stuff that is local to you if you are in a smaller town which doesn't have much of an online footprint. Google would have me travelling quite a bit for a specific type of cuisine while Nokia's Local seems to find stuff that is local.

My main complaint about Windows phones is the hardware right now. Chunky, huge bezels. Not good, not the way everyone else is going. Maybe this will change.

    Re: Windows Phones

Not sure what you're looking at that's chunky, other than the Nokia 1020 with the thick camera piece. The 925 is very slim, as is the 8x, and even the monstrous new 1520 is slim.

As for bezels... same thing. Some phones have more bezel on top, some on bottom, but none of them have cornered that market. Depends on the manufacturer, all they are required to have are 3 buttons across the bottom, like Android.

The 1520, might just be too big. that 6" screen is just beyond a lot of folks comfort zone for a big phone.

The Note 3 is 5.7", and although it's a little too much for me, I know a couple people who use it as their day to day phone.
