The Google Phone Exists After All

Not only is it real, but it may work unlike most cellular phones we know in some ways. Have a look:

Most of our sources have unconfirmed information, which we describe below. But there are a few things we have absolutely confirmed: Google is building their own branded phone that they’ll sell directly and through retailers. They were long planning to have the phone be available by the holidays, but it has now slipped to early 2010. The phone will be produced by a major phone manufacturer but will only have Google branding

That’s all we have for now. We don’t yet know what the device will look like, how big it will be, or even if it has a physical keyboard. But we do know that Google is getting into the phone building business directly, and doesn’t seem too concerned about competing with all the other device manufacturers building Android phones.

The Google Phone may be a data only, VoIP driven device. And Google may be lining up at least AT&T to provide those data services for the Google Phone, says one person we spoke with today. Users could still make calls just like a normal phone, of course. The calls would just be over the data service instead.

Kinda cool I guess... but ATT is the last phone company that would want to go pure data/VoIP only.

Why is it everyone here realizes this and no one at the phone companies does?

don't go ape shit or whatnot, but I am finally in the market for a smart phone. I've reached a point in my journey where it's just more convenient to have the extra features for the money. I've been hanging on to my contract renewal upgrade.. can use it anytime I want. Just have to figure out what I want to do.

It's just too soon for this because I'd wager I'll love whatever G comes out with

Because 'G' doesn't just stand for Google, it stands for 'green', which they will be making a lot of if they do get exclusivity

With all the android phones coming out, this should get lost in the crowd. Unless it's more integrated with Google than regular android phones, which will just upset android owners.
