i never understood unboxing vids (I'll watch myself unbox something while it's happening, especially if its something i'm excited about - though i think a bit of the feeling sorta went away after I got into like... high-school. lol)

nice review - would be interesting to see how it fares on the trip to do everything that the folks hope it can.

It's going to be a case of me kinda teaching them about all the things they'll be able to use it for.... the translation thing and Skype in particular.

Such a great idea for them to take on holiday, will be interesting to see how your next few weeks go as you show them how to use the key applications.

Can apparently be fixed by taking the back off, and making sure some screws are tight. It will not void your warranty according to the site.

Nexus 7 units suffering from screen separation issues?

The case is dead easy to pop open and re-attach, and all it takes between that process is the tightening of the screws. Thereís no voided warranty to worry about so donít be worried if you need to send your tablet back for repairs some day.

I talked to someone who had that issue. He took it back and got a new one. Gamestop. They overnighted it to the store.

Using the sR Way Back Machine, there's this...

And the fact it can store an assload of books really makes it cool.

Coffee's right, it's almost there. Needs color (optional. turn off for power savings), needs a better price, and absolutely needs a better pricing matrix for books.

Make it $199 and make a book a little less than $9.99 and I'm there.
This was in reference to the $500 Kindle from 2009.

Probably happened when google stopped selling the 16GB ones. Turns out they were too popular, so they are halting to catch up on filling demand.

    Sounds like an Apple thing.

Anyway, maybe they'll see now they can sell them at a higher price, maybe. Not suggesting any particular price, just higher.

No, that's both 8gb and 16gb versions... both WAY over list on Amazon... fulfilled by some no-name outfit. And they're not going to sell them at a higher price- they're essentially at cost now when you factor in labor. They are selling cheap to flood the market with Google Play market access devices. This is because the Fire sells at $199 for 8gb. And I can say as a fact, this is pulling people away from iPad purchases, too.
