Ugh...Rockstar is turning into friggin Edios.

Tomb Raider Franchise= GTA Franchise?

Sure seems that way. They need to stop milking the GTA series, and do somthing original for once.

^^^^ if it aint broke dont fix. Tomb raider went downhill after the first couple if i remember correctly. GTA3 was great. gta:vc was better, gta:sa was much better than vc. Sounds good to me.

Maybe, but it still wasn't enough. GTA III was a breakthrough title, no question here, but what if you played the original GTA, the sequel, then GTA III, then Vice City, and finally GTA: SA?

You get bored real quickly. Pretty much the same content to be found in SA, can be found in VC, and VC had more going for it(for me anyway), aside from the interesting RPG elements they threw into SA, it's almost the same game as VC, with a new paint job.

I want to see somthing new. Yes, tried and true mechanics please 90% of the people who enjoy this series of games, but for that odd 10%, it does not. Yes it isn't broken, but it could be improved a hell of a lot more, then it has been.

Dated visuals, a crappy aiming system, a few bugs that could kill the game, and pretty crappy AI are a few of the problems with SA, that have also plauged VC and III...and they remain unfixed. Not that I really give a flying...fark about visuals, but for 50 bucks, after the last two, I expect an upgrade...the PS2 version's framerate lags big time, and the XBox version doesn't do so well either, which leads me to belive they did not spend enough time optimizing the game to run at a good pace.

The absolute killer though, is the storylines. III had virtually nothing there, VC tried, but played like a bad Scarface ripoff, and SA didn't interest me all that much, as the whole "gangster" theme seems fake at times. The dialoge is much better in SA, and fits the series well, but there was more potential here, and as usual, Rockstar spent more time on useless crap, like hiding a mini game where you have sex, then working on the games engine and code. I'm not saying it's a bad game, not at all, I'm just saying, it needs work.

GTA has never been flawless, but some of the problems can be fixed, and should be fixed.

I can't really bash GTA either way, as it is undeniably fun to play, be it for the missions, or just to cause hell on the streets for 20 minutes. Also, when you play crap like Driv3r, you start to realize while, some of these games have flaws or bugs....they aren't bad. I just feel Rockstar needs to push it a bit farther with the gameplay and storyline elements.

I won't however, agree with you on the fact that, SA was better then VC, cause to me, it was not...that is me though, and I prefer the whole 80's Scarface theme versus early 90's gangsta theme.

Final note, people do get bored of games, be it the best thing ever to most, there are always a few who will tire of the game long before everyone else. GTA is in that grey area where, if too many of them come out in a row, and nothing is really amped up, the entire franchise will indeed, go the same way as Twisted Metal and Tomb Raider. Of course, in the case of Twisted Metal, you can revive a dead franchise, but it takes a HELL of alot of work, to do so.

Anyhoo, just my two cents here, no bash, no flame, just opinions.

You mean that the 3d interactive city thing with criminal facing story? I hate to break it to you but every game is becoming GTA, Gears of War is a really well toted next gen title that has halo like gameplay in a GTA san andreas type setting large cities, albeit war torn. Destroy all humans is GTA with aliens and no cars to steal. If you are tired of GTA then you must be tired of all games because they all seem to have the same basic things comprising them. Every FPS is the same idea, offer a path to an objective and tie a story into that objective. At the least the GTA or Getaway series offers you some openness as to how to accomplish goals. In DOOM 3 or half life 2 the only option to solving puzzles was weapon to use or what tactic with the gravity gun will get me out of this. Games are starting to become more and more open ended and that only means more and more games like GTA so I guess you'll just have to give up gaming.

Clones are one thing, but if you think every single game is the same thing, your very off in the assumption that, there is nothing original out there. Also, GTA did NOT define the "open ended" genre of gameplay. Most people seem to think it did, but sorry, it did not. All it did was take the open evironments of RPGs from the past, and expand on it, in a mature way. The original GTA was based on a shareware game from the 486 days of gaming also, so it's not all that original.

Yes, most games are clones of an original source, but there are plenty of games, that break the molds that you described.

Finally, I never said I hated this sort of genre of gaming. I have alot of hours spent, just driving around the streets of Liberty City, killing everything, and laughing my ass off in the process. What I said was, that while this works, it needs improvments. SA was not enough to merrit a true sequel to GTA III...nor was VC. For Rockstar to really follow up on GTA III, then need to go back, take what worked, throw away what doesn't, and improve everything that works. THEN you will have a true GTA III sequel...as VC and AS feel like add-ons or mods of the original game.

I myself, don't see expansion packs for games, even standalone, that cost 50 dollars...and thats what SA and VC both are in many ways.

well i think you are biased becaues you like the scarface story better than the gangster story. SA offered stats, working out, eating etc. You could "pimp" out your character with clothes, jewelry, haircuts, tattoos, etc. He could be C. Diesel'ed up, or fat and sloppy. That was a great addition. Also you had the chance to go to a strip club and get a lap dance, go shoot some decent pool, or even play some basketball. SA was much bigger and I really did feel more immersed in the game. I dont think many will argue that SA wasn't a very big improvement. Maybe bigger than gta3 to VC.

GTA is a jack of all trades game. it is not meant to be great on all aspects, but rather..good. That is why the series blows out the competition. Other games try to take one or two aspects of GTA and make it "better", but in the process, the rest of the game sucks!

THat is not to say GTA is without improvements. UPDATE the engine please! Fortunately, it will debut on the ps3, which means that the pc port will have much better technology to work with. But come on..those textures...blah. It is at least nice playing at 1600 by 1200 resolution on the PC. I think the PC looks a billion times better than the ps2 for the high resolution alone.

The missions are too tedious, and i think they need to work on having a more "sims" like experience. Keep all the working out and the stats, but maybe have more "stats" type missions. It sucks having to do all these tedious missions to advance. Maybe advancement should take place in a different way....

And fix the WAY point system! lol. I cant believe they still use that nasty, clustered, map to travel about. Thats about it. But psp will hopefully be a great game and not some "portbable " crap gta. I hope its similar to vc or gta3, "on-the-go"

To get back on topic - I think this game looks great. I'm pretty sure I'll buy this one.

Even if it isn't as good as GTA:SA or even GTA:VC...it's frickin' portable! Now I'll be able to kill pimps and hoes anywhere I go - not just my living room.

I had also heard a rumor (not that I trust rumors) that Rockstar may include a small (64MB) MSDUO with the game for storing music tracks and extra cache to prevent so much loading from the UMD. I think that the biggest worry that some people have about this game is the battery life when constantly loading large cities.

Anyway, I think it looks promising. :bouncy:
