So - did anyone buy the PSP?

Read the book , saw the movie, still decided to take the plunge and accepted the lik-sang price ($529 -value pack) - hopefully, I get it by end of the week or beginning of next..

Besides not being able to get it from import sites, I decided not to, when I read that a PSP from over there, wont be able to play UMD movies from over here.

not too concerned about the UMD thingy - didn't buy it for the movies - already SCE has media software available thru sony style japan - I'm sure somebody will have a firmware hack later on..

some good info - http://www.lik-sang.com/news.php?artc=3548

wasn't gonna pay the ebay prices - although I could have probably made some $$ reselling my order before I even have the thing - as a few people already had..

Does anyone know if you can burn your own music to the UMD disks that the PSP uses? I really don't want to have to rebuy my entire music collection to be able to listen to it on the PSP.

Same question for movies.

From what I read at Gamespot, you should be able to drop your mp3's into the proper UMD directory folder. Movies need to be encoded in a special MPEG-4 format, supposedly sony will supply the software to do this.

I love the picture with the 3 psp's and the ds

mp3's can just be dropped in the music folder. As far as movies go sony released the software yesterday (beta) that will allow you to encode your movies. The downside to all this is that it needs to all be put on a sony memory stick. I wouldn't mind sony's memory stick so much if they were the same price as compact flash. I mean they essentially do the same thing.

agreed... sony memory sticks are way too expensive for the size... hopefully if and when the PSP gains a lot of momentum when they start shipping them in larger nunmbers, the prices for memory sticks will also come down.

Laf! This is Sony we're talking about.

From the link van provided it looks like it has about a 3-4 hour game life (full sound full screen brightness). Do you guys think that's enough?

actually they've dropped the prices since they first came out with the memory sticks (i use to use a sony pda), but they are still high for their storage capacity...

as for game life, that's good enough for me since i don't fly and i have a car lighter to home electrical plug adapter... i hope they release a bigger capacity battery at a later date for a few more hours of play
