So I opened my PSP

OK, so i finally just decided to crack it open.. and here are my thoughts.

Ridge racer - after playing burnout, this game is boring.

The music is horrible, the handling is bad, even for an arcade racer.

The graphics are great for a hand held machine..

perception of speed is HORRID.

It can be fun, but no where near as fun as burnout 3 which to me is the ultimate arcade racer. The soundtrack is horrible. The voice dubs are very typically Namco.. cheesy as hell.

The machine itself... very nice.

Quiet, fast... decent sound, great graphics.. the screen of course is phenomenal.

I was expecting a lot of problems.. i think I have one stuck subpixel which i can't notice at all unless i am STARING at the area for 5 mins. I have not done a pixel check nor do i plan on it.. if i can't notice them now, it's not a big deal.

Movies look great on this thing, the umd is not going to be widely adopted though so the movie watching will rely on getting things to memory stick which is very expensive right now.. so much for that.

I have an iPod already - so i won't be even thinking about using it for music.

The buttons, none stick.. they all seem to respond as they should. The worst thing.. and the thing that will probably end my romance with the PSP is that my hands are too big for it. I'm 6'5" from my bttom palm to tip of the middle finger is about 7.5"-8" - to me, it was uncomfortable. THIS is what i was mostly afraid of.

The analog stick is pretty much useless to me unless i want carpal worse in the next 3 minutes.

All in all.. i think it was a bad purchase for me. majorly the control / hand size issue. maybe i will see if i can try some other games out but as of now.. up for sale it goes.. which is a shame cuz i was really really hoping it would meet or exceed my expectations... I realize that i need to give it more of a shot and iw ill play more later.. but i have to say aside from thinking it is beautifully crafted.. i'm not sure the PSP has a place in my life.

So anyone want a used for 30 mins PSP

Sorry that was more of a wise crack.. if I do sell it, i'll be posting it on craigs list locally.. to take a hit on the price and also have to pay shipping.. too much... and what's the point of buying used if by the time you pay shipping, you pay the same as going to the store.. well, cept tax..

anyway, i'll be thinking of whether i am going to sell it, definitely need to give it a bit more time...this was a Very initial review and I also haven't slept yet 8:30 am.

I hope you tried Ridge Racer for more than 30 minutes before trashing it... :saywhat:

It gets a lot more challenging. I kinda agree with the music, some of the tracks are just weird, and the announcer guy is kinda weird too, but the gameplay is hardly boring. Burnout 3 was obviously so much more fun because of all the different modes and whatnot, but to discount RR as boring is kind of overboard. If you take time to do the tours, the ones later on get harder. If you've only tried it on single player, I could see where you're coming from.

Also, in terms of perception of speed, I don't know what you mean exactly, but once again, the cars get a lot faster as you unlock more stuff, so....yeah.

And about handling, I don't know exactly what you mean by bad, do you mean the excessive drifting and stuff? If so, then that's what makes up the essence of Ridge Racer. If you're into more realistic driving, then yeah, probably RR is not a good game for you.

How does ridge racer rate in terms of the other ridge racer games?

So often people rate games based on other games, and that is just a crap way to review things. Ridge Racer always had it's own style of play, which I liked better then any other car racer out there. I just wondered how it rates against RR4 for ps1?

Also, for those of you that played twisted metal and wipeout, how do they compare to their ps1/ps2 cousins?

I haven't played RR4 in a LONG time, but from what I can recall, the drifts seem to be easier to perform in the PSP RR over the RR4, but don't quote me, since I can only vaguely recall my experiences with RR4.

And in addition to my previous post, halfway thru the Pro Stage in the World Tour, after the "Ending Credits", you start doing those 1-on-1 races, and that's where it starts getting super hard. Before that point, I could win races in one try, now it's taking on average 3-4 tries to win a RACE, not even a TOUR. Super challenging indeed.

Oops, my bad, I thought you were referring to giving the PSP another chance because of your big hands, I didn't think you were referring to RR :$
