I buy games for the PS3

Why should I buy one if there is one wherever I am. If I buy anything, it will probably be the wi-fi XBOX 360.

Even more back on topic... Denny, are you going to try another wheel?

I don't think so. Game Stop has one that they branded that's apparently a flimsy POS. The Logitech wheel is built super heavy duty, and I imagine it will last. I just think the controller will offer more precision.

    sigh

I tried this online calculator that claims to be able to predict how long until a particular car will show up on your UCD list. You enter your current 12 recent cars and it will tell you, in game days, when it will show. I filled in the blanks, asked about the Chaparral 7J and it said it was coming. In 2400 game days.

    Re: PS3 Gran Turismo 5

So, I picked up GT5 again recently... because 2 people I work with have PS3's and got the game. Once I got over the fact that I will very likely never get the Chaparral 2J car, I've been really enjoying the game again. And, as a bonus, I found that when you hit level 35 in B-spec, they give you the Red Bull X2010 car. I've wanted this monster, have the cash for it ($20,000,000), but you cannot buy it until you hit level 40... a ridiculous level requiring more of a time investment than I care to give. The car is an incredible handful to drive, but yields amazing speeds. I'm now at level 37 in A-spec and level 35 in B-spec. I have 200 cars and am about 85% through the game. They still offer regular seasonal races... one of which is a race in the Nurburgring using the upcoming Corvette C7. The car is available as a free DLC and is totally wrapped in that canvas used to disguise cars not yet released. I presume in a few weeks when the car is unveiled, the wrappings will come off. Cool schtuff.

My favorite car is still the 1989 Toyota Minolta race car. Great speed and handling, suitable for many, many tracks.

Edit: The Red Bull X2010 (and newer X2011) is a fictional car designed using the best technology available for a mythical race where there's no restrictions. It's massively overpowered, super light, and is a fan car. That's a car that uses huge fans underneath to suck out any under-car turbulence... making it stick to the track like glue.

Wow that thing is crazy. Looks like one speed bump could send you airborne for miles though.....

As long as you stay on pavement, you're glued there.

    Re: PS3 Gran Turismo 5

Picked up GT5 again. It looks great on the new TV and guess what was waiting for me after a couple sessions in the used car dealership? The Chaparral 2J. The white brick. $15,000,000 later, it's mine. I'm glad I made a point to keep $20,000,000 on hand in case it showed up. Plus, I had enough left over to finish collecting every Ferrari in the game.

The 2J is a handful to drive. Like the Red Bull car, it's a fan vehicle and when you're on pavement, it sticks great. But, the engine is like a muscle car motor, brakes and suspension are...well... circa 1970 in sophistication. But, once you've learned how to man-handle it around the track, you can get great results.

And, any other GT5 players? No, it's not for sale.

Video of the 2J in-game (not me driving)

Just pick up GT5 (XL Edition) to try it out again. Had 13 updates lol.

Was disappointed that there are only 3 Volvo's in the game, and neither my car (S70) nor my roommates car (V70R) are in the game. Just the C30R, S60R, and 88 244 Wagon (lol).
