| | | Empire Earth II Question Out of the RTS games I've played I like:
Warcraft II, Warcraft III, Starcraft, Age of Mythology and Battle for Middle Earth
The ones I dislike:
Rome: Total War, Age of Wonders, Warhammer 40,000, Kohan III
For those of you that have played RTS games, and have also played Empire Earth II, do you think I would enjoy this game based on the likes/dislikes above? I would like a new RTS, but I'm thinking Empire Earth II may play like Rome: Total War...which I didn't like. I'm not sure though because I haven't tried it out. |

The only thing I didn't like about Empire Earth I was the time periods..... I like me some old school action ala Age of Empires. Other than that, in terms of actual gameplay, they are siimilar.

| | | I love Dawn Of War. Its the best "straight" (i.e. - I'm not including Rome Total War here) RTS since Starcraft (and possibly including it). The only complaint I would have is that the campaign is good but not great, Dawn Of War's real strength is in multiplayer.
Rome Total War has kept me consistently absorbed for longer than pretty much any other game I have ever played.
I don't get it - how can you dislike the two best games the RTS genre has seen pretty much ever???
That said I do like Warcraft 3 and Starcraft but have never played Age Of Mythology or Battle For Middle Earth.

| | | I have played the thing and its an okay game but with serious performance issues.
Id say it plays alot like age of empires.
Compared to the games you gave Id say the following :
Compared to Warcraft 2-3, starcraft : Its played on a much slower pace, battles are bigger and last longer, there is a huge importance in continualy expanding your base, and its much longer.
Compared to BfME : The bases you have to build are heaps times more complex, the micromanagement is more important, more units, longer battles ...
Personaly I prefered CnC generals compared to Empire Earth by far

| I thought Rome was a little to boring for me. When the hordes of guys fought, they just kinda of stood there. Made me feel like I was watching a really bad made epic battle.
Dawn of War was a pretty game. It seemed like there were way to many bullets/lazers zipping around and it gave kind of a fake feel I thought. I like the whole building aspect as well as the fighting part. That is why I like Age of Empires/Mythology more then the others. I think I like Battle for Middle Earth so much because it has LoTR characters combined with a good single player campaign along with great multiplayer. |

| | | I agree with the other poster, how can you dislike the best thing in strategy gaming? (TW series).
Granted, they do stand around a lot, but you do have to give concessions to the fact that you are dealing with thousands and thousands of troops, and to let your computer run it the AI has to treat units as well...units and not as individual troops. What you doing zooming in that close anyway....I have to stay far out to maintain multiple calvary rushes and to keep a good feel of the battle as a whole.
Anyway, Empire Earth II is easily the best RTS I've played in a long time (although I expect it to be dethroned shortly by Wartime Command, no base building and resources, simply starting a game with a battalion of troops and fighting with just that for the whole game, and having to deal with real logistics, not the pseudo form in RTSs now). But a word of caution: the multiplayer games against competent players can get intense. You have to juggle a lot at once and exceute them quickly. The depth of the game leads to more tactical decisions and you have to not allow yourself to be bogged down considering your options. Also, the battles I have been in tend to last about an hour and a half as opposed to the half hour of most RTS multi games. But if you don't mind that, then go for it.

| | The best RTS I even played was Myth 2 : The Fallen lords. (the 1st one was good, but the 3rd one was quite bad. The fanchise was sold after the 2nd title when Bungie were bought by Microsoft)
A masterpiece from bungie (the makers of Halo) if you ask me...
A shame it never got the full attention it deserved
Its more along the lines of "Wartime command" that Volvagia introduced....
Id also like to say that not liking Rome total war is possible, but unlikely
Rome total war is to Risk as empire earth is to Monopoly
