Rome: Total War Question

I think this is technically a hardware question, but I put it here because it only involves my Rome game. It's played fine for two months, and then the other day, when I load the latest campaign I was playing and hit the turn button the game shuts down just before it finishes all the factions' moves.

What could be causing the game to shut down like that?

does it go back to windows? and do you have any mods installed?

Yeah, it just goes back to my desktop.

By mods, do you mean cheats within the game code?

If so, yes, I modded the amount of cash I have to start with. But, I've done that once before with no problems.

I'm having a similar problem. I can't seem to look at the Senate tab. it shuts down and goes back to windows. I have mods on it, cash, plus unlocked some other factions to play. but this problem was there before i modded (sp) anything.
