I agree. I enjoyed the total war series. I still play Rome quite frequently. Right now I am playing Stronghold 2. It's pretty fun, and there are alot of elements that add realism, like the fact that archers can't destroy buildings, as they can in EE2. There are two modes of gameplay Gentle and War. In the Gentle mode you have Free build and a Sim campaign. In War mode you have "The Lost King" campaign as well as custom game etc. Just a suggestion.

The best RTS game for PC will definitely be Age of Empires III which is coming in Q4 this year. Look for game play footages and screenshots at Gamespot and you will see what I mean

Homeworld 2 has a short, but fun, campaign, but it has a lot of plot holes. Not sure that many people are playing multiplayer anymore. That said, it still is very pretty.

Nexus could have been great. It was just a little off the mark, though.

Civ3 still steals my sleep and keeps me up at ungodly hours. Give it a shot.

The only strategy game I really enjoyed playing after Age of Empires II and Starcraft was Hearts of Iron and Hearts of Iron II. Star Wars Empires at war and AoE III looks good though!

You've never seen any movies where archers launched a barrage of flaming arrows, caught a building/village on fire and destroyed it? It was a common tactic back in the day.
