Fallout 3: Canned

Fallout 3 has been canned.

Check http://www.nma-fallout.com/ for news and what is probably the only screen shot of the engine and game we will ever get.

This sucks :moon:

Well, now that's truly depressing. One of my favorite games of all time (well, several of them). They really had a great thing going, but I can see why Interplay did what they did - younger kids (the target audience) isn't into that retro 50's post-nuke stuff. Hell, most kids think the 80's are retro.

I sure hope someone picks it up and aquires the title/rights from Interplay. The former BIS guys can all re-form into another dev team.

I remember alot of people getting pissed about it being targerted towards kids. I was just happy to get another Fallout game. Oh well.

The dev team of Fallout and Fallout 2 are some of the best in my experience. I wish a company like Blizzard would pick-up the license for FO. At least we KNOW they would spend the time to do it right.

I used to work there, was on the PS2/XBOX FOBOS team before the layoffs started. BIS was working on FO3, they are all gone. The people that worked on the original Fallout titles have been gone for years now Interplay will continue to sell its property, the Fallout license will probably be sold to the highest bidder. They need money and have no new games for this year. Their parent company VU Games is hurting financially too. They just had a bunch of layoffs.

Sad times for Interplay, it hasn't been the same since Titus took over and pushed Fargo out. Look at where Titus is, I'm surprised they are still a company. I think they have about two people left in the France office.

I was at Interplay for over 7 years. The company has been in trouble for the past few years. I doubt they will survive past 2004. Everyone still working there is actively looking for a new job.

Really? I knew Interplay was hurting, but to the extent was questionable.

Anyways, is there anything you could share with us about FOBOS or Fallout 3?

Well, FOBOS is Baldur's Gate Darkalliance with Fallout style graphics. FOBOS2 will be the same game with more levels. Nothing new, just different levels. They are already working on the sequel, it should take about 10 months to complete. Mostly the same guys that did RLH are on the FOBOS team. What was Digital Mayhem is the only group of people Interplay has in development now after canning all of Black Isle. Looking at their track record doesn't give much promise for anything they release. It's all politics there now.

Fallout 3 had been in development for qite some time before anything was announced. I'm not sure how much of the game they actually put together but they were working on it. I didn't have any contact with the guys working on it so I don't have any inside info. I'm sure that it will be sold like they did for Hunter and all the other games they've sold in the past for a quick buck.

I doubt FOBOS will do very well in retail. I didn't think it was very fun, we had to go back and totally redesign the game to keep it from being droped. FOBOS was very close to being canned because it was not fun. They said the same thing about RLH and that title did horrible in retail. I wold have canned everyone on that team but instead they handed them FOBOS. This is a good example as to why this company is about to die, bad management for several years will only lead to destruction.

Ah... Mechwarrior 2...

Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries was by far the best. Had rules for equipping the mechs most equivalent to the board game (Which I played for years).

Got Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries along with my Dell 166mhz many years ago....
