Argh loves playing with their D-key!
looking for a realistic mmorpg

my first mmorpg was ffxi and it was a religous experience. i lost interest in it after my warrior hit level 30, but was thirsty for something more. i picked up everquest 2 and it was a real dissapointment. i then picked up WoW and it was great but lost interest when my warrior hit level 30 as well.

now, i am looking for something else. and, this might not be available, or i may be asking too much. i always compare an mmorpg to ffxi since that game got alot of things right. for example; money is counted as a number, instead of gold and silver bars. the mood was relaxing and the characters moved fluintly and looked realistic with high textured weapon models and such. money and leveling was dificult to achieve and there was a penalty for death, which i prefer. the only think i believed that was missing in that game, along with the other ones i have played, is realistic pvp.

i am looking for an mmorpg that has a pvp system that allows you to attack anyone at anytime and at any place if you wish...you know, something realistic. and not just a dual mode, i mean to attack and kill so you can steal his or hers equipment, steal money from the fallen victim, etc. something that if you attacked an "innocent" player / npc in a town or city you would get assualted by the npc guards. a game where you would be foolish to venture out by yourself in fear of having other players that hide in the forest, near rocks, caves, that act as thieves and would hunt you down simply to steal your goods, or just plainly kill for the fun of it.

maybe i can create a short list of what i am looking for;

1) realistic pvp as described above. for example, a group of players in a linkshell or gang that hides outside the city gates near an important path that just wants to hunt down other players for a night of slaughtering.

2) an interactive npc system where you can hire gaurds or mercenaries to protect you if you want to venture outside in an area that has alot of "needless" pvp going on.

3) realistic humanoid toons instead of "lizard people" and realistic weapon models and a veriety of weapons as well.

4) money is counted in simple credits like, 13,234 credits / gil. not in gold and silver bars like WoW.

5) dificulty in leveling up and aquiring money like in ffxi.

6) a world wide auction house 24/7.

7) a world where you can't simply play the quests to obtain all your gear needs ( like WoW) but instead, looking for gear in the auction house where other crafters made them. making equipments' price reflect the live economy of the game. because it is dificult in aquiring money, it would be dificult in getting the best gear for your toon, resulting in a sense of pride when you bought something from your hard-earned money. unlike WoW, where gear was readily and easily obtainable by simply killing monsters or doing quests, making the equipment not valuable, and not providing a sense of accomplishment if your toon had the best gear already. in ffxi, i would farm for hours on end to get the money i needed in my early levels of the game for my toon. this may sound stupid, but it gave me the feeling of accomplishment when i had enough to buy that kingdom armor or that next great axe. it provided a personal connection with my toon. in WoW, i had so many weapons so fast that it was not special and sort of tedious with all the items i kept acquiring.

8) a large veriety of weapons and magic. ffxi was decent in this dept. but too many equipment looked the same as others and it was a negative. WoW had alot of veriety, but they all looked the same because the game had a low polygon count by nature.

9) i actually liked the fact that monsters were very dificult in ffxi, forcing you to party up before engaging them. and damnit, if i wanted to go into a leveling zone with my party to harrass other parties just for the hell of it, then i would have liked to have that option. there was nothing better than watching another partie's white mage (healer) get killed in a battle and having the party disband and run for their lives from the monster...it was hilarious.

it is getting late here. but i think you undestand what i am looking for. is there anything out there like this?

real quickly, the reasons why i no longer play or do no like the 3 that i have played so far;

ffxi; was great, but lost interest after i killed a "named monster" that dropped an extremelu expensive item called the leaping boots that sold for 300k at the auction house. after i got this rare drop, i became filthy rich for my low level character and purchased all the best gear. if this game had a realistic pvp system i would still be playing it because the story line pretty much sucked in it.

WoW; was a very good game and a great replacement from ffxi, although not as good because it lacked alot of the features i was accustomed to with ffxi. the pvp system just did not do it for me because you could not loot the fallen victim which made pvp kind of pointless. you could solo too much in the game making it too easy to acquire money and gear. character classes were too limited and the character models were poorly done, especially the weapons and equipment. but, it did have great humor though which i found to be a plus. after shadow fang keep (which i thought was an outstanding zone) the rest of the game went downhill and seemed repeatative with the endless quests.

EQ2; this game sucked from the begining. it was too confusing and the fact that there was no pvp made it unbearable...especially when you could choose between good and evil. what the hell is the purpose of this if the to factions can't freaking attack each other? regardless, i only played this game up to level 10 and i quit before i was charged the monthly fee. wasted 50 bucks or so buying the game.

...maybe i am asking too much out of an mmorpg:speechles

You know, I used to play a game called Runescape that has several of the options you're looking for, BUT the graphics are about on par with the original NES. For what it is, it's pretty fun, but it's not going to look anywhere near as good as any of the other mmorpg's out there. So, that's the tradeoff. If you're interested, though, you can check it out at www.runescape.com

Why don't you check out Silkroad Online? You can be a thief, and there is pvp although it's not the smartest thing to kill other players in that game...I just got it but haven't been able to get in the servers tonight to try it out. From screenshots the graphics look impressive, and you are a human character. I don't know much about the game beyond that yet

Oh, and it's free!

Upon reading this post I went brain dead for a good 10 minutes, I sat here trying to type some sort of coherent response but all that came out was jibberish.

You managed to break my brain.

i am sorry that i broke your brain...but i think i have found a solution to my needs....EVE online! i am playing the 14 day trial and so far it is providing almost all of my requests. it is such an open-ended game that anything can happen and you can do almost anything.

Eve is a good one. The entire economy is player run and there's 30,000 people on there that all interact, so no need for multiple servers or having to create a new character to be with a buddy on a different server.

It's more of an adult type of game due to the thinking involved, which is why I like it. Less kid stuff present like there is in other MMO games.

I just reactivated and the new graphics and tweaks are great. Still a fun game with lots to do.
