D&D Online

Last night I played my friends copy of D&D Online and thought the game played pretty good. The graphics are good but the controls are a little hard to get used to. I only played for like 2 hours but the game seems to be something I could get into. This is a group game for sure, if you go solo you will probably get killed right away. I would have probably gotten it myself if Oblivion was not coming out this month and all my free time will be playing that. I was wondering if anyone else has tried D&D Online and what their take on it was?

I have heard mixed reviews on it. From what I have seen and heard its nothing that breaks the mold of the fantasy mmorpg genre.

No PvP? No point. I'll just play Oblivion.

I watched a friend play it a small amount this weekend. I played quite a few of the MMO's and D&D Online looked like garbage IMO. I moved really odd, like it was a very cheaply designed game that did not have enough development time. He played it for about a day and realized he didn't like it. I gave it about 15 minutes and I knew it was garbage. I had high hopes for it because I'm a fan of the table top D&D.

If your thinking of a MMO, and want a more realistic looking game like D&D Online, I would go with EQ2. I'm more of a fan of WoW, but that is just personal preference over any kind of blah blah about one game being better then the other.

I was never a DnD fan and I don't plan on being a fan of turbines game of Asherons call 2 with DnD skins (and still you can see signs of reused charcter models from AC2 which is depressing to look at)

I played it in beta and it's simply not a game for me, especially if you're a mmo vet that needs something NEW and refreshing

From what I've read, it seems like its a very limiting, underdeveloped game.
There are a preset number of dungeons, which, after you beat, you've done everything.
There is no crafting, PvP, or any real kind of traditional player interactions.
You cant go past level 10.

From what I get, it can be fun in the beginning, but then you realize it is an underdeveloped game with limited play value.

Started the 7 day Free trial the other day....

Granted I had to turn the graphics down a decent bit, so I'm not able to comment on that feature, but overall, I found the UI to be very limiting and frustrating. It wasn't as bad as Dungeon Seige II, but I found it frustrating enough. It felt like I was having to look through the world with blinders on. City of Heroes spoiled me rotten as far as UI goes.

In general, DnD Online seemed like a bit of a mid-level MMORPG. It's not particularly "slick", things like loot drops are not too obvious, and the environment feels too restricted (Dungeon Seige would be "very restriced", Star Wars Galaxies would be "hardly restricted".

Combat demands more of the user- you have to be facing your target to actually hit it; your character won't auto-turn to fire at your target.

To me it seemed there was little more to the game than finding a team, getting missions, and killing mobs. If that's the case, I'd much rather play City of Heroes- the UI is superior.

I'm being a little harsh on the game, I know that, but I think it's justified. I was disappointed.

note: I played EQII for the first time the night following my DnD Online time, and I found it to be more agreeable UI-wise. It also felt less restricted and more "polished".
