Having played both quite a bit, I'm more of a fan of Heroes personally. With the character classes of both games, it felt like Heroes had better define "roles". Such as, you are a blaster, a tanker, a scrapper, etc...

There is pvp, but it is restricted to zones. Within these zones, everyone is raised / lowered to the same level. There are also missions in the zones that are repeatable. They are cool for getting xp, and they are solo-able. Example of the level change, if a level 21 and a level 51 went into the level 20 pvp zone, each persons character would be 20th level while in this pvp zone. They would lose any powers they had after 20th level, but they would keep the enhancements on them.

These are the two greatest MMO's I've played for teaming. This is because they have a system that allows your heroe or villian to temporarly adjust its level to fit it's teammates. In Heroes, it is called "sidekick" or "exemplar".

I played these two for months and it was fun. It is a simple system that seems to work well for playing a Hero or Villian.

Also good to note, Heroes is WAY less hardware intensive then Villians. While both will push your machine, Villians seems to be a more demanding game on your hardware. Also, both games have a different feel to them as far as what kind of character you get to play. I recommend looking at the website and reading about the character types for each game, and determine from that which would be more fun to play. The core of both games are pretty much the exact same, so no matter which game you choose, it will play very, very similar.

I played these games for a long time. When choosing sides it kind of depends what you want to do. Villains are definitly more fun in PvE, at least solo. I mean a brute is way more fun than a tank, a corruptor is much more fun (and powerful) than a blaster, etc, but in PvP, villains are mostly not up to par. They do have a few I-win buttons spread around, though.

I have pretty much the exact opposite attitude then Forum Troll when it comes to PvE and PvP and these games. I found Heroes to be a better PvE and Villians to be a better PvP. Then again, I wasn't a huge fan of the PvP in this game. It felt kind of empty to me.

Well for PvP, the only thing villains have thats worth anything are stalkers and corruptors...the others are extremly weak compared to their counterparts. I don't know if you were around for CoV beta, but the big PvP event at the end in sirens call was pretty disgusting, the villains were getting owned really bad in every zone. Basically storm owns villains, stay in the hurricane and you negate most villain damage. Jagged Legion had a 5 man team in one zone with a stormer, an empath, and some damage dealers, and we were holding our own against 20+ villains at once.

If you're talking about solo pvp though, then yeah stalkers are pretty much unbeatable unless you build for it.

I didn't do any hard core PvP in either Heroes or Villians. I played the beta for Villians, but I don't think I did any PvP while I was testing it out. I'm not saying the PvP is bad or unbalanced, it is just not my cup of tea. When I was try it out, I used a blaster for Heroes and a brute for Villains. I did simi-ok with both. It just seemed to me that there was no kind of reward or anything to it when I tried PvP. It might be a lot more involved then I know about though. I'm more of a PvE player.

I think the main distaste I have towards Villians is that it runs worse then Heroes. Meaning, it has slightly better graphics, but it requires a bit better hardware to play good then Heroes did. The other is that I played the bajesus out of Heroes and when I fired up Villians, it just didn't feel different enough to keep me playing hard core. That's why I threw in the post above that they are basically the same game style, so the OP knows that no matter which he chooses, it will be the same gameplay and fun that the other offers as well.

I tend to use Heroes / Villians as filler for when I want to take a break from the other games I play. It definitly has its own feel / style to it, and it is a fun game to play if your in the mood to play a game as a super hero.
