There is a plethora of player-run servers out there, some with total conversions (or as much conversion as the Aurora engine provides). The one I know of is Brynsaar, or something like that.

| | | Diablo 2 is much better online. Much much much better. Graphics aren't everything. D2 is faster paced, and a bit easier to play than NWN, and it is easily replayable with the hundreds of builds you can make from the characters. I tried NWN for a little while. It was fun, but D2 just seemed to hook me more. I was addicted to that game for 4-5 years. Graphics suck, but that wasn't why I played the game. There is no denying D2's awesomeness. |

| | | ok well i have played a bit of nwn and beaten diablo1, but let me ask more specifically, which would have a better online experience(even if i dont know any friends who play), in addition to lasting a while. is there another rpg that would be better? i currently have a 1.8 pentium m, 2 gigs of ram, and an ati9700, i want to be able to have the graphics run and look like they were intended. i have run into problems with city of villains...more thoughts? |

| | | Well I played on Brynsaar for about a year, and I have to say that probably takes the cake for awesome online gaming. The community was amazing, the DMs were active, the game world was brilliant, the experience was glorious. I can remember sitting alone, playing NWN on Brynsaar for hours at LAN parties when my friends were hucking grenades at each other, or playing Dungeon Siege.
NWN requires more work to make it fun, you need to find a good server, get accepted into the community, get a name for yourself and a reputation. It takes much more initial effort but if you can get past that stage, it becomes an almost holy experience.
I enjoyed my days of NWN more than WoW... and that's telling you something.

| | Here is how multiplayer diablo 2 compares to single player:
Single player: sucks ass
Multiplayer: I had more fun playing this game than anyother other game. Ever. I was addicted to this game for 3 years, and even now, I'll play it on and off for a couple of weeks at a time just to make a lvl 90+ character. Diablo 2 Online is pure pwnage. The variations in character builds lend's to high replayability, and it is very easy to get characters to level 70+, which is when they become a lot of fun. You can get one to lvl 70 in a day if you find the right games.
I think my favorite character would have to be my level 42 PK zealadin. I would take him into games with level 60+ characters and be able to easily kill half of them. Those people though I hacked.
Do yourself a huge favor and buy diablo 2. |

| | | I tried NWN for a bit, but I couldn't really get into it. Just seemed way too slow and had too much of a turn based feel (yes I know it was meant to be that way, D&D.)
Diablo 2 though was awesome, I played that for a very long time. Though imo, ever since the 1.07, 1.08 patch and the expansion, the game just got worse and worse. The combat system got much slower to cut lag, and the new items that were being released were just retarded, and made rares useless. I'm sure it is still an awesome game though, just because the starting point was so damn high.
