SpellForce 2

Hello thar,

I would like to recomend Spellforce 2 for anyone into RPG's and to RTS (real time strat). This game is basically a direct combo of WC3 and Diablo(PC game).

Diablo Comparison:
You'll run around with a charecter (that develops into a 6 man party of them eventually) doing quests, killn' the bad guy and stuff. You lvl him/party up get them new gear and spells. There is a tallent tree that you use to make your charecter into what class you would like him. So, basically he starts out just....normal, and you can make him into a melee charecter or a magic user. Then you decide what type of melee or magic they use. Really quite cool.

WC3 Comparison:
Eventually you get people to side for your cause and you wage war. There are also other times where you run into situations where you have to help an ally and command their armies and it becomes RTS type of game. During the RTS part you get your entire party of players that stay the same lvl and help you fight.

The storyline on this is pretty good, and the voice acting isn't bad. I would reccomend this for anyone who's into Real time strategy games and RPG's. Grafics aren't phenominal but they're still pretty good.

Let me know if you have questions

Have you ever played Dragonshard? Is it anything like that? The reason I ask is that Dragonshard was *supposed* to be a fusion of the RPG and RTS genres, specifically combined into a D&D based game. Well, suffice it to say that it was the WORST game I have every played that claimed to have any RPG elements as part of the storyline. Just wondering how this game compares.

Thank you,

zakaluka2.

I've never played Dragonshard, or any of the D&D games...just weren't my thing. Plus I just got out of a HEAVY WoW addiction and moved onto other games. Also, this is the second spellforce so, the first one seems to have had a bit of momentum. When playing the game, its more of an RPG than it is RTS. The RTS parts just happen to "fit" into the story rather than be the majority of the game. There is a really good balance between the ammount of story and RTS. Even the RTS portion directly relates to the progression of the story.

Hopes this helps.

Hmm. Sounds very intriguing. Thanks for the review and for answering my questions. I was a HUGE Diablo 2 fan, so I believe I will check this game out.

Regards,

zakaluka2.

I spent a few hours last night playing the demo (which is excellent) and found this game to really capture my interest. It has a heavy "Blizzard" feel to it, in all the right ways.

I would disagree that the graphics are not spectatular, I found them to have a level of art and over all detail that make it stand out from any other RTS on the market. It doesn't have the graphical level of some RPGs (like Oblivion) but the high above view point the game usually is played with doesn't make that necessary. In fact the graphical level it has would probably require a nice SLI set up just to max out.

Linked their homepage. Also, I just noticed they've been winning awards for the game too. Not sure if the awards mean anything....but they're winning them has to count for something :dance2:
