: 83 rd | | heres the thing, there is no such thing as a single player MMORPG. MMORPG stands for massively multiplayer online role play game. the mmo part obviously implies not only playing on the internet, but also with other people. what you are looking for is an RPG. i am not trying to be a jerk, but searching for an RPG will help you find what you are looking for.
You can find any FF at game stores. I hear FF 7 is the best if i remember correctly. i dont think you will be able to find and PC FF games for free. the first ones were actaully console games, super nintendo or something, i dont really know. Other RPG's that are good include Star Wars: Knights of the Old republic (freaking great game), Fabled: Lost chapters, the elder scrolls series (morrow wind and oblivion are the most recent), and others.
List of action RPGs: http://pc.ign.com/index/reviews.html...rn_all=is_true
other rpgs (some MMOs): http://pc.ign.com/index/reviews.html...rn_all=is_true

| | | Yeah sorry for posting MMORPG, i go to many forums looking for good MMORPG's and its was habit by typing that lol. I edited it probably as you were posting. Thanks for your help.
I was thinking that maybe the FF company released some of the older versions for free to promote a new release or something.

| | final fantasy 1 through 6 are all NES and SNES, and you can easily find the ROMS and emulators (I use SNES9X). 7 onward are PSX/2 and you will not find those online, because they are 4 cd+ or at least 1 DVD
but they're all really good
and if anyone cares, they re-released NES FF1 and NES FF2, and then SNES FF2 and FF3 for PSX. one set is called final fantasy origins http://psx.ign.com/objects/497/497950.html and I forget what the other one is lol but on this one, they completely updated everything from graphics to monsters, etc. so it feels like one of the SNES games, but has the characters and story of the original FF. pretty cool. I enjoyed the hell out of it

| | I dont think there are any free RPG's out there unless you do what Vincent suggested and got emulators. Dont get me wrong, there are TONS of awesome and epic RPG's thoughout the years like the oringinal Zelda and Link (side scroller!!) or even Final Fantasy. They just aren't grafically intense and something that is gonna make your brain spazm from flashing lights and colors going "oooohhhhh, ahhhhhhh"
There aren't any good new RPG's that are free, at least that I know of.......well....anythings free if you look in the right place Let me know if you're up for the "one time fee" rpg....I'm currently playing 3 different ones :X

| | | I'm not a fan of the FF series, but back when FF7 was released (well, 2 months before) I tried out Wild Arms for the ps1. It was fun if you like that sort of game. It was my first and last attempt at a game like that.
I recommend Neverwinter Nights or Star Wars: Nights of the Old Republic.
If you get NWN, get the expansions and play those. The core game is a bit boring, but the first expansion and after are fun. (shadows of undrentide or the under dark one)
I was shocked by how much I enjoyed the above star wars one. It had good story, great controls for the menues and such, and light sabres if ya wanted.
My main appeal to both the above games is the dialog changes according to your acts through gameplay.
Both games do not require a net connection, and are pretty cheap now. |

| | <sigh>... don't laugh too hard
if you're like me, and your imagination actually does work, then the value of a game is defined by its playability and character appeal, and little, if it all, by it's graphics (but hell, you gotta be able to see what's going on)
to this end, my friend and I used to play a couple of games.. one is called Mordor 2: darkness awkening. The other is called Demise. Both are very old, and at least one is written entire in VB6 :o .. but you'd never know it. They're not real time movement, it's like Myst and that you hit the arrow key to move a cell. but it's total RPG and incredibly fun, very well done, and you can set up servers so your friends can play in the same dungeons (though you can't really interact that much). The demos are pretty damned involved and long, and I think for a few bucks the guy will still send you a burned cd of the whole thing
it's interesting because some of the development team of both of those titles went on to build Horizons http://www.istaria.com/ which is a MMORPG.. that I always wanted to try
