I've been a long time fan of LotR since my first encounters with the Hobbit, as a child...
I played the beta for less than a day...
Wouldn't pay a wooden nickel for even a 30 day trial...
Totally catered to children...
With the "lifetime subscription" preorder offer, it appears that even the designers of the game are predicting it's failure, and are gearing totally for peak release sales...
An unfortunate smear to a great name in fantasy...
I have to agree, after playing the beta I see no redeeming value in this game and no reason to play it.
Every game ever made involving dwarfs, elves, and orcs/trolls is a ripoff of LOTR books. It doesn't mean there can't be original ideas and concepts in the newer games.

i know.. but think of WoW and LotR... they are the exact same thing.. except with different names for places...and character names... thats about it
I have the beta for LOTR. When I played the stress test however - I made the decision that I will never touch this game again. MMORPG's based on movies just seem never to do well, take a look at Matrix Online. Maybe it's just because I was never into LOTR or the elves/dwarves fantasy save the world thing.
Side Note: Star Wars Galaxies was the best MMO created up until they killed it with new combat systems.
Lotro just seems like another DnD except with the Lotr names thrown into it. The combat style looks well choppy and even when you open the game it just doesn't seem like a high quality game. I talk bad about WoW like any other Cs:s'er but at least that game got me addicted for a little while.
