: 42 nd | | | EA Calls out Fox on Mass Effect Quote:
Electronic Arts, likely sick of having their recently-acquired role-playing franchise Mass Effect dragged through the mud on national television, has requested that Fox News Channel correct their error-plagued segment on the game. In the letter, which cites Kotaku, Jeff Brown, EA's vice president of communications, asks Teri VanHorn, producer of the Live Desk with Martha MacCallum, to clarify "serious errors" the channel made in their Mass Effect story.
"As the parent company of BioWare, the studio which created the game, EA would like you to set the record straight on a number of errors and misstatements which incorrectly characterize the story and character interactions in Mass Effect." The letter starts and then proceeds to outline their very strong case.

The amount of morons in the Fox News clip totally stuns me.

Mark of Death was talking about the ESRB rating the other day on Ventrilo. He was saying that the ESRB classifies a game as T+ (Teen) by whether the game has blood in it or not, but does not dispute that you're actually killing people, irregardless of no blood. He brought up a good point to this, but I would like to transfer that over to the TV ratings. If the game has blood in it, it's automatically M+ (Mature) rating, meaning you should/must be 17+ to purchase the game. However, look at all the blood in TV shows that are rated TV-14 or even PG-13 movies (Live Free or Die Hard, for example). I'm pretty certain the average kid has more access to the TV and just flipping it on and watching movies left and right than purchasing and playing a M+ game. Anymore, the only stuff they actually edit out of movies to be aired on TV is just nudity. They leave the violence, blood, gore, etc. all intact. I don't know about any of you, but if I had a kid, I'd rather him see some boobs on TV than some guy getting shot and killed.
Anyway, parents need to stop blaming the game companies, the games and the ESRB and just take responsibility in actually monitoring their child(ren).

| | | Yet again, another reason i Dislike mainstream News. Seemed to me that the two women on the news show were teaming up on the SpiketV guy. They tried either not letting him get a word in or just trying to change it to what certain things do to a child's development. He was just pointing out how they were wrong about what the game includes, and they had to go all bitchy on him.

Neither of them played the game more than a few minutes, so they don't know what happens other than what they've been fed. They try to shift responsibility of monitoring to the game companies or the government, and away from the parents. And that was after they were told that the 360 (and I'm assuming PS3) have ways to block content over a certain rating.
But somehow I think this will boost sales of Mass Effect. And I think it's funny what has happened to the reviews of that lady's books on Amazon. |
