| To me this doctor is nuts. It's really easy to compare the 2. Which would you rather have on your screen if your mother walked in the room, pr0n or WoW? I think perhaps the good doctor is just trying to get himself some free publicity as an internet addiction doc. I think most disturbing is the link that he forms between computers and the school shooter psychopaths. BLOCK: The message is nuanced. It's the shooters' relationships with technology that's the problem. For instance, some of the school shooters removed their hard drives and destroyed them just before they died.

BLOCK: We don't know. We can't ask them and we don't have the hard drives. In the case of Cho [at Virginia Tech], he shoots two people; he's covered with blood; he showers; he knows the police are coming. He plans to kill 30 more people, but instead of getting on with it he pops the hard drive out of his computer and spends the next hour or half-hour disposing of it.
IDEAS: So when it comes to the school shootings, you're interested in the relationship between people and their hard drives.
BLOCK: With these shooters, their last act was to turn against their own computers. As a psychiatrist, I think that's relevant.
| Are they going to start doing with computers what they did with Dungeons and Dragons back in the day? Only time will tell.

| | | let's take a look at the driving factor behind all of mankind's inventions and technology. one (cynical, possibly simple) explanation is that everything man has created has been to impress woman, to score, etc etc. Why? Why do you think.
Technology will very soon allow us to substitute reality with fantasty, anything you want to see, feel, or experience will be provided to you upon a whim. I suppose that's bladerunner-ish of me. I have no idea what the world will be like when that happens. I suppose it's all in upbringing, you have to learn and be taught that the greater satisfaction comes from living a real life and earning real accomplishments. I wouldn't want to be a lawmaker say in 200 years.
