Final Fantasy XIII: Versus (on Hold?)

Bad news for all Final Fantasy fans… Yesterday, Joystig reported that Square Enix is putting Final Fantasy XIII: Versus on the shelf.

Now there are two different ways to look at this. 1) That the team who was developing Versus will now shift over to Final Fantasy XIII to complete the project faster… or 2) The more cynical view is it is being put on hold and will never be picked up again. Coming from a field where projects get put on hold ALL THE TIME, I never see the project again and they eventually get canceled, but this is a different market.

Again, fans were ecstatic when we heard that two Final Fantasy games were being developed for the Playstation 3 back when they were announced as part of the Fabula Nova Crystalis project in 2006, but getting one

There is still no release date for Final Fantasy XIII and highly unlikely we will see one before 2009.

If that one is delayed to get XIII out faster... I'm all for it. Unless Versus is not going in the direction they want it to be they could cancel it -- but I trust Square to do the right thing. They've almost never disappointed me.

I'd love to see some more info on the game though... i keep going back to their site to hopefully see some more stuff, but there's usually nothing.

I have a funny feeling we'll probably be playing Duke Nukem: Forever before XIII comes out... but who knows! Too many good games to be waiting to come out.

I want a remade version of FF 7 so bad. Would be awesome to see what the characters/game features would look like in new technology.

FF FTL, one thing is that they are looking better every time. Can't deal with that turn based thing though...closest I got to enjoying that was KOTOR but that's different.

Same, I have no issues with turn based fighting in RPGs...

I just want to be playing the dang game
