| | | Why Do People Want To Leave World Of Warcraft? Quote:
Eleven million people are registered to play World of Warcraft globally. Its gameplay is solid. Its community is enormous. Its customer service is unmatched. And it was the key driver in the biggest merger the games industry has ever seen. It's the inarguable king of MMORPGs, particularly in the West, and rules the ubiquitous PC platform.
So why are people constantly looking for the first opportunity to ditch this game?
| This is a pretty good editorial where they talk about the WoW vs GameX debate, and why everyone's looking for the next WoW-killer... while they continue to level up their ten characters nightly! Link to article |

| | | Once you hit the mmorpg scene, you're always looking for a better experience. I play everquest and played it religiously up until about 3 years ago. The one thing this genre has that really cannot be deviated from is the level grind. Eventually it is this common theme that slowly( in most cases) turn people off the genre. I really don't see any foreseeable change to the way the genre works any time soon, sure there might be a different approach but in the end it still boils down to go to X do Y be rewarded with Z. Once you've played any mmorpg you've basically played them all.

| | | But with so much new material coming out for WoW, wouldn't it make sense to keep at it as a player? |

| | | I know exactly what is being talked about here. I myself have played alot of WoW. Over the past 4 years the game has not really changed. Just more levels and some new gear, dungeons, etc. I have many level 70's and I too am always looking for the next MMO. It's not that I don not like WoW, it's just that I, like many others need a change. This change is not easy. The game to beat WoW, will need to be absolutely amazing. People thought that Age of Conan was going to be that game. I thought it would be too.
Many WoW players and myself all stopped playing WoW to try out AoC. Sadly, AoC was a huge disappointment and many people went back to World of Warcraft where they knew they would be satisfied. Now the "hype" is about WAR. Unfortunately I believe this game is not hitting the ball out of the park.
People keep coming back to WoW because they love the game, have made so many friends, put alot of time into their characters that if they quit, then the many hours put into their characters might seem like a waste to some.
Hopefully some day an amazing MMO will come out and the WoW era will be over... hopefully

| | | I think that while the core may still be the same with completing quests and getting rewards, there are always different ways to handle it and do it.
You may take a pretty boring route to work and back everyday, but if there's an opportunity to take a nice windy, scenic route instead, you'll go there.
There's just lots of different ways to handle different things. If they can make the grind more enjoyable and more fun, then I think people may go for it.

But until something revolutionary comes out i think its just going to be WoW and WoW wannabes with the players returning to WoW.

| | | I like World of Warcraft, but i stopped playing because of how much time it took to get things done... If you spread out your leveling too much you make extremely slow progress and not being able to see that progress is kinda frustrating...

| | I wonder how many WoW gamers really think Mr. T plays WoW.. hyeah:
I use to play EQ on and off for about 7 years.. I quit about a year ago.. The number of players just kinda went to sh3t.. and It's a pita trying to befriend people 24/7 who are potentially prone to mental illness. The True Crime Weblog: Deathmaker Just an example.. I was kinda friends with this guy for about 2 or so years, he became a asshole though, thinking he was pro and knew it all, when in truth he was buying up plat with his disability money and food stamps and shiz... His brother in law was kewl though..

| | | WoW will never cease to exist until either Blizzard stops caring which will never happen or Blizzard comes out with another MMO which they say they are making. Whatever that MMO is, I am sure WoW players will flock too it. | | |
