It'd be nice if TomsHardware.com could do a really intensive study on the factors behind frame rates in gaming. I've seen over and over where 2 virtually indistinguishable setups gave completely different results... and none predictible. At first glance, you'd think counterstrikes system would give the 100fps, but you'll never know until you try it. My system is over 2 years old now with an overclocked 6800gt... and it benchmarks better than more than a few 7000-series card systems. Mr. Vega has bugged me for at least a year to do some upgrades, but my response is, I dont want to upset whatever delicate balance is making this heap work. Bottom line- my recommendations for video cards is generally find the top card out (pick your poison, nVidia or ATi) and select the next lower card. 2nd choice is wait for a new series release and then go for the former top dog when the price falls. Unless you're playing FEAR on dual Dell 30" screens at Uber Resolution, you really dont need the best of the best.

I had a dream two nights ago I got some new nVidia card (the model in my dream doesnt make sense for an upgrade but it was just a dream) and the performance was less than what I have now and I was fuming mad. then in the dream, I had forgotten to connect the aux power cable and even after that, no change. bad omen? maybe i shouldn't upgrade either. 128 fps in CSS with a 1.5 year old sys
