    Help?

    Hey guys, here is my situation.

    I don't use the default keys when I play, I have gotten really used to using the side buttons on my optical mouse. here is my list of control I use

    Shift=Walk
    crtl=crouch
    space=last weapon used
    a=strafe left
    d=strafe right
    s=special weapon function
    left click button=shoot
    right click= jump
    mouse button 4 (left side of mouse)= forward
    mouse button 5(right side)=back

    now this may seem weird to u guys but it is what i have gotten used to over the time. Will this affect my play? and which razer mouse should i get, i was looking at the green one because of the side buttons being opposite of each other, but i dunno! I need help guys!

    if you play with those buttons a lot, get a mouse with larger side buttons. The Razer Copperhead has decent sized buttons on both sides, the Boomslang has a large button on each side.

    Some of the other mice have very small buttons or knobs on the sides, stay away from those, you'll be fine.

    //Yes, it's weird to use mouse buttons to move forward and back.

    I always use the basic WASD and mouse button 1/2, makes it easier to switch between games.

    Use the customizable mouse buttons for other binds, like weapons profiles, admin, etc.

    I was hardcore into the joystick option on gaming until I first played Halflife 2. I took the time and learned the WASD layout and that's all I use now. If you're used to something different, stick with it. I'm not sure about using a mouse button for forward & back either, but like I said, if you're sued to it, that's all that counts. Personally, I'm not to hot on the Ctrl key for jumping, but I'm used to it now.

    Yes, that is extremely weird. But put it this way, when I had a smaller desk I had no room to lay my entire keyboard flat while having room for my mouse to rest on the same slide out drawer. I used to move with the arrow keys, jumped with Enter, walked with right shift, crouched with ctrl.. and used the delete key and numpad for everything else. It was what I had gotten used to. But when I got my new desk I decided to go back to default. The only non-default keys are my reload, (I use the middle mouse button) voice, (side mouse button ftw) and drop weapon (I use the Q button.. getting over the F key is a bit tough for me ). It took me about 2 or 3 hours of non-stop practice to master it. Although crouch jumping took me about a week to learn perfectly LOL.

    Since you're already using the A and D keys to strafe, it shouldn't be too hard using the W and S keys to move forward and back. Chances are, the new mouse you get will have those side buttons positioned differently and it will be even more awkward getting used to that. Give it a try, it wont hurt.
