America's Army 3 release date announced

They have announced the release date for America's Army 3. Guess what?, It's not that far away, June 17 2009. Yes that's ten days from now. They are also planning on releasing on Steam but as of now it doesn't show up on the upcoming games list. And of course it's free as in “free beer “ to download.

Here is a short list of details about AA3

Woot, this will be worth a play for a few weeks at least. Best in a fairly large (6-10 player) group though.

It was announced in late march (GDC) that it will be on Steam as far as i know that's still the plan. Steam will be sweet but I suspect the download servers might still get overwhelmed as they did with the free UT3 weekend.

I remember playing the first game and one thing I didn't like about it was that you needed to complete all these training missions to play online. Wonder if that's still in the game.

You don't have to do the training sort of. I wonder how this will be handled on non-honor servers.

Training is a key element in the AA3 game just as it is in the Army. The game offers a variety of new training levels that will give players an advantage in the game. After completing basic training players can go to advanced training to increase their in-game skill level and progress in their Army career. Success in the game earns players the privilege of taking specialized training. This specialized training allows players to unlock new abilities and gear, and to customize the gear they carry as well as their equipment loadout. As players advance, they will be able to 'cross-train' on many different MOSs available in today's Army. Such players will be highly sought after due to the capabilities they bring to multiplayer missions. Additionally, as a new feature, players will have the ability to join online games with limited capabilities using the "instant action" feature.

The training was easy enough. Aside from E&E, you pretty much breezed through it. It was a good intro to the game.

I haven't played since 2.6/7-ish, so I'll have get back into this when v3 comes out.
