Online Retailers Boycott Modern Warfare 2 Over Steamworks

Perhaps the one bit of tolerable news that has come out of the entire Modern Warfare 2 on PC brouhaha was the inclusion of VAC and other Steamworks features. But as with everything else MW2 related, you did not really expect this to go smoothly, did you? Kotaku reports that several major digital distribution outlets are now refusing to sell the latest iteration in the Call of Duty series due to the mandatory inclusion of Steam upon installation. Most notable among those who are choosing not to sell MW2 is IGN owned Direct2Drive, as well as Impulse and Gamersgate.

I don't really see the thought process. I mean who cares if someone has to install Steam post-D2D install? Like they don't already know about Steam?

This just equates to lost sales for D2D and any other e-tailers whom compete against Steam and are taking such a stand.

Oh, and LOL at even more fubar with this game

    I like this comment

"Sir, Modern Warfare 2 is forcing players to install our competitor's software. What should we do?"

"Don't worry, I have a foolproof plan. We'll simply not sell the game! That way, if people want to buy it, they'll have to buy it from our competitor! Gamers who want to purchase Modern Warfare 2 will have no choice but to not give us any money whatsoever, and we'll make exactly $0 on the biggest game launch of the year!"

"Your plan is nothing short of sheer brilliance, sir. That'll show those bastards at Valve who they're dealing with.

right? and the best part is if someone wanted to buy from D2D and was forced to buy from Steam, they've be forced to install Steam.

There are already bunch of gamers who will be forking over $0 for this game anyway. The pile on is great.
