    Valve Introduces Team-Fortress 2 AI Controlled Bots

    Valve's Team-Fortress 2 blog brings word of AI controlled bots finally being available in the game.

    With the success of the AI systems of Left 4 Dead, we've been continuing to develop these technologies to create new kinds of game experiences. Team Fortress 2 is an excellent "sandbox" for explorations of this sort, and we've been quietly doing so for much of this last year. Some of the results of these explorations are TF "bots" AI-driven player proxies with simulated humanlike senses, reaction times, and tactics. Although the TFBots are not yet complete, they play a pretty decent game of King of the Hill.

    Since this is a beta test, the TFBots are only functional on these King of the Hill maps: koth_viaduct, koth_sawmill, and koth_nucleus. They don't understand the rules of multiple point capturing, cart pushing, or flag getting... yet. There's also no interface in the game to accessing them yet (we'll add one in an update shortly), so you'll need to access them manually.
    They go on to advise us on how to bring bots into the game and whatnot on their blog page. While TF2 certainly will never be a single player experience, the bots could at least be fun on a long car or plane ride for those that just can't stop thinking about pushing carts and capturing arbitrary points in a map, while wearing stupid hats. But I digress...

    they call the bot AI from LFD a success?

    well from my expierence bots are worse then noobs, and the l4d bots suck so bad i want to teamkill

    can we get a "director" in TF2, also, so it can unleash a wave of taxi-demos whenever I plant a sentry?

    the director is good it owns us every time so it works but bots on the other hand are so pathetic

    I'm convinced that bots, especially those made by Valve will never be functional enough to impress us. But just getting some bots in the game to take up space is decent for TF2.

    UT seems marginally better. Valve bots are like having a 12 year old with a badly implemented aimbot installed on your computer.
