    for HL2: ati or nvidia

which of these low end cards would be better for hl2:
nvidia geforce4 440 go with 64 megs dedicated
    OR
ati mobility radeon 7000 IGP with 64 megs shared.

shared memory results in lower quality but since the gpu is newer in the ati, would it be better for hl 2?
    thanks!

Neither one is gonna be good at all, and I'm really not sure that either could run it. If one could, I'd guess it to be the 440 go, just because it has its own ram. In early benchmarks however, ati cards raped nvidia, but that was dx9, and essentially was fx5950 vs 9800xt.

Given that the minimum specs for Doom 3 will be an ATI 8500 w/ 64MB, you may need to get a new system.

Both of those cards suck, but for modern video cards, HL2 will run better on ATI and Doom 3 will be better on Nvidia.

Half Life 2 runs at around 50 fps maxed out on a 9800 np. It runs better than a lot of people think. All this talk about upgrading for HL2 is miserable.

i disagree... i think when hl2 is released...it is going to be one of the best graphically engineered games ever created combined with the gravity engine... people want the best they can get because they dont want to be disappointed.. it is def. going to be worth the wait...

64mb card will work just wll enough to where you can play the game (Choppy at lowest settings), but at some places your screen is gonna look like a game of tetris.. your gonna want at LEAST a 128mb card of either brand.. you local computer shop or ebay can get you a 128mb card for around 60-80$.. im just running an Nvidia MX 4000 128mb i got for 60$, and it runs everything just fine...

I think 128mb for high res texture on a decent DX9 ATI card (9700 pro or 9800) and HL-2 will be fine...

If Doom3 is owned by nVidia, HL2 will be owned by ATI

Unless someone runs BM's, I think it's pure marketing that one GPU is favored over another with D3 and HL2.

    You couldn't be more wrong.

ATI has been working on improving its DirectX 9 (HL2) since the 9700 Pro, but has barely worked on improving their OpenGL drivers (D3), and it really shows.
