although this is all desktops i think, but you can make the comparisons....(i think mobile 9700 is equal to a desktop 9600xt or something like that

i take it back, for laptops your review is better! thanks for that!

overclock your gpu to say 470/250 that's my stock clock on the 4750. you should be able to get 30 fps on medium, 20 on high.

You definately have a problem You should at least be able to to run at 800x600 mdeium detail. The real killer is shadows and vsynch. You take those off and ti will run on 1024 medium detail.. I suggest you try some differnt versions of the omega driver (older ones even).

My mitac with ati 9700 128 ram default clock runs this game very well at 1024 high detail(shadows off. this option takes an extra fps off!)

Yeah thx for the help. My problem was actually that my bios was limiting my cpu speed to 600mhz, even when plugged in. I changed that, and now it runs beautifully. I would recommend keeping shadows on tho, they really add alot to the game.

    ***ALERT***

    ***OLD Tech Support Question***

So before I hear (read) 10 pages of "Duudde, you're system is soo OLD!!!   " I am prefacing this with "why do you think I came here to look for a new laptop?"

I haven't ordered my new lappy (1557GL) yet, so I have to make do with what I have for now...a four year old Dell. ug.

    866Mhz
    384 MB RAM
    Radeon 8500 128 VRAM

So, my question is twofold, any remember (if you can think back when we computed with abacuses) what the best drivers are for the 8500? I keep reading about Omega etc. drivers for the new ATI's (9600, 9700) so is there any equivalent for the old 8500.

Also, I am boosting the RAM to 768 (old pc133 in transit from newegg), is there any chance I can run the game with 384? Should I even bother untill I get the new one? Is the 866Mhz just too underpowered for DOOM? Will anyone reply to this message seriously... :saywhat:
