    "Use at your own risk"....

What risk do you think it could be?

    OMG, serious performance boost.

I have an 8890, 9600 128 meg pro, 1 gig ram. Set the memory to "seta image_cacheMegs "512"

Was running 800X600 med quality, now 1024X768 on High quality perfectly.

    Thank you, laughterkillsme.

    Cheers,

I dunno if it's just me, but I noticed this trick beefed up my DOOM3 performance by a lot.

    Anyhoo:

    In your DOOM 3 directory, find "DoomConfig.cfg" (x:\Program Files\Doom 3\base). Open DoomConfig.cfg in Notepad.

    Find the line:

    seta image_cacheMegs "32"

    I changed 32 to 96.

I got a nice boost in performance. I dunno if the tweak worked or not (maybe my machine did something wierd, have no clue), so I'm just seeing if this works for others as well, or if a different setting works better than others.

AS A NOTE TO THOSE OF YOU JUST GETTING THE GAME (haha, slowbees), the config file doesn't appear until after you've used the program.

Oh wow! I didn't run FRAPS to see what type of a framerate increase I got, but I did notice a pretty good improvement right away. Only problem is the bugger likes to crash and boot me out to the desktop without warning.

that's probably because you didn't configure the three tweeks listed in the thread.
