    Doom3 Ran Smoother than FarCry

I never played FarCry, but after I finished Doom3, I went and bought it. I just started it. Weird, Doom 3 was smooth, but Far cry is sluggish in a fire fight at medium. Is it because Doom 3 was a better engine? or some other reason?

My guess would be because Doom3 is in door in small areas, it would lag worse then Far Cry in big open areas...

They are completely different engines which nullifies your whole argument. Some engines are much better at doing outdoors environments, others are better at indoors, but you can't compare two totally different engines and automatically say that the indoor one gets better performance because it draws less. And according to most/all benchmarks I have seen, Farcry runs faster than Doom 3 on any given system.

i dont know about you guys but when i play FarCry i can "feel" the fps lag. I dont need a counter to tell me that i'm getting low fps. Now i can play Doom3 on high at 1280X1024, and if i go into ultra at 1280X1024 then i can feel that lag.

    just my $.02

It's not you. The cry engine isn't as efficient as Doom. Granted there is a draw distance difference, but the total poly count rendered at one time is similar. I for one am totally underwhelmed by the cry engine, the vegetation is thin and not well modeled, i see little difference between it and serious sam in that respect. This is similar the the fps difference between UT2004 and Halo. There is little difference in graphics quality, but the unreal engine manages to pump out twice the FPS (no exaggeration). FC and Doom III probably are equally graphically astounding on super-mega-ultra settings, but not everyone has a GF 6800 to do that. With a given set of hardware, Doom III is smoother than FC.
