PS3 in UK officially retails at 425 pounds (~$800)

Yep. The only problem is most people are concerned about buying Blue-Ray or HD-DVD. They don't want to pick one, buy a player and a bunch of new movies, and then have their's be the one that flops.

Is it safe to say that the company behind the medium that fails will be doomed to failure also come the end of this generation? I'm tempted to think Sony might at that price point should HD-DVD become the dominant format..

please... ever hear of the Beta vs VHS war? or what about MD? those are two formats of Sony's that failed... and Sony is as strong as ever... they are now entering the SLR market now... they continue to impress me

$800? That'll drop. First they say $500//$600, now $800 in conversion? When I see the price on 11-17, then I'll worry about the price. Till then, this doesn't mean much to me personally.
