Does ps2 support High Def?

A friend just bought a high def tv. He said without the extra cables that can be purchased for the ps2, the game looks like crap (better on his old tv) (this is tekken 5)

Will it make a difference with the high def cables?

Does most games even support high def on ps2?

I don't think the PS2 support HD in any form. Only XBox.

Sony sells the Component AV Cable on there site.

When you go to componet your video signal is split across three cables each controling differet aspects of the picture vert lines horz lines and brightness giving a much sharper cleaner picture.

where with RCA everything is going across one cable

The PS2 supports progressive and HDTV, but the games have to be compatible. For example, Gran Turismo 4 is HDTV capable and it works using component cables. But that's the only game I can think of that's HD. There are a handful that support progressive scan though.
