| | | any of you getting "hl2.exe has stopped working"? I've recently been having TF2 shut down after a couple minutes play with the "hl2.exe has stopped working" error message.
I went to steam and followed their suggestions for dealing with the issut, but it didn't work.
I see this problem quite a bit on the net with people searching for a solution, but not much luck solving the problem.
Any of you getting this?
I've shut off UAC, changed admin permissions, excluded steam and hl2.exe from DEP, loaded all the windows fixes, deleted and redownloaded the game and checked all the game files...
It isn't happening with CSS, just with TF2.

| | | It's happened to me before. But not more than once at a time.
Does it happen every time you try to play?

| | I get it from 1 particular CS:S server after I leave and shut down CS:S. And if I visit our server right after instead of closing CS:S, I get a weird wall-hack-looking effect that last about 10 seconds into the round, then it locks up, and I get the HL2.exe has stopped working error.
Odd.

| | I always knew Denny hacks...
It was happening every time I played, but about an hour or two ago, steam said TF2 is temporarily unavailable. Now it's back up and I just played for a couple hours without the error message.
Looks like they might have fixed the issue.

| Hammerhead what are the specs of your computer? Is it the one in your sig? May sound a little odd but back when I had my AMD 3800X2 and 1 gig of ram I would get errors in TF2 because my computer just wasn't up to the task apparently. I have steam on vista and haven't had any issues with it. Not sure if this helps but try re-installing TF2.

| | | On my laptop (Core2Duo,x1400 Mobility,2x512 RAM), I would get random crashes and pauses while playing CS or any source engine based games. Usually it would just hang and force a system restart, and the issue has been known for a while, but no known fixes were available.
I know its not really relevant but maybe you have some similar piece of hardware (I'm thinking some version of the Core2Duo) that causes these errors to happen.
It could honestly be a lot of things but I'm betting its a hardware problem between it and source:engine.
Could try running the game in another version of DirectX. I know its not the preferred fix but say version 8 might fix it without giving up too much graphical luxuries.
